Default Partworks Rubber Gauge Seal is Stuck

Ladies and gentlemen I messed up big time, thinking im a mechanic, which I am clearly not, I thought id install new rubber seals on my gauges. Decided to order seals from part works.

Left oil gauge with some silicone spray went in reasonably easy. Then came the next oil gauge the 100mm one. That gauge is now stuck half way in the hole completely wedged and stuck completely shut. Also the other gauge I installed I cant pry out anymore. I tried to pull the seal out with a plier which ripped it. New it looks absolutely terrible

The car is going off to a Porsche Gold mechanic next week, can he fix this? im freaking out a little. Cause its essentially impossible to move. The Tachometer and the clock are still on old seals and can be removed. The speedo is on new seals and also stuck.

Help

I'd try to get them as parallel as possible to the dash, even by pushing in more if necessary. Then use multiple plastic pry tools to lever them out.

Sounds good, I think I'll leave it to the mechanics on Monday.

Out of curiosity is this a known problem when installing new seals that they fit too tight, especially with a leather dash, or did I just get unlucky with the partworks.de parts?

It's a known that some of the gauges go in and out easier than others. One trick is to get one of the easy ones out and then push or pull from the back to help seat the gauges next to it.

alright, well lets see what the Mechanic says. I think I am lucking since the Techo and Clock are still on the old seals which come out easy. This way he'll be able to push and pull from behind.

Cause the Small Oil Gauge and the Speedometer on the new seals aint moving at all. Compared to how easy it was to extract to gauges on the old seals, they some impossible to pull out now.

But you guys are confident he'll be able to right it? The dude does full CGT Engine rebuilds etc.

Just my $0.02. But when it comes to removing gauges in, at least for 964/993, it is best to remove speedometer/odometer first. This is because this gauge has a metal housing and is less likely to be damaged using a prying tool from the front. Once it is out, you can reach through the hole and one by one push the others out from the back. None of the other gauges should ever be pried on from the front as the housings are prone to cracking. Alternatively, you can reach them from the cowl side and push them all out. Once you have the first gauge out, the rest are easier if you can work them in and out slightly using silicone spray... eventually they will free up. I use a very slight film of silicone paste at the edge of the gaskets that will contact the dash first to help them slide in. And if re-using old gaskets, they always get cleaned with warm water and simple green. I also use a rubber treatment on old gaskets before installing.

As far as your question about your new seals, IDK. I always use Porsche parts when possible.
