Auxiliary oil cooler
I have had the car of 90 days , and have exercised the proper amount of restraint. I am now interested in adding an auxiliary oil cooler. Does anyone have the part # for the Turbo "S" kit offered by Porsche?

You can get it from Gert at www.carnewal.com They probably won't have it at the dealer.
The better one to get is the cargraphics one. Just installed mine last week. You can get one from www.carnewal.com or www.group9motorsports.com
Here's some more background info: http://www.993faq.com/archives/cat_engine.html#000222

I might have to get one; I drove my car in 95F to 98F weather over the weekend, and the oil temp needle was at the 9 Oćlock position when I wasnt on the highway at decent speed.

hatcy, depends on your situation, but the oil cooler fan switch may help you. If you get stuck in traffic a lot, then you have another problem. There needs to be air motion for these to work.
The oil fan switch forces air through the coolers at your discression.

The "S" cooler (which I just added), seems to be perfectly adequate for normal, spirited driving, and even some track useage, if used with a little restraint. If you are planning to run lots of track events on blistering hot days, get the Cargraphics at about 3x the Carnewal price for the "S" cooler. My point is... it depends on your intended useage.

RC, although I am a bit dispirited now I have researched this to death. With all due respect to Steve, from what I have found out in my extensive research into twin tank coolers with cross flow and normal tube through fin type is that the S cooler is not worth the money and in some cases can actually restrict flow because the tubes are actually alot smaller than the tubes going to the stock cooler i.e. the stock tubes are aproximately 30mm or close to AN16. The S cooler is smaller than AN10 size. also the S cooler is the long tube through the fin design which is the least effecient. the twin tank with cross flow is better which is the Cargraphics GT2 type. I still cant justify $2K although Kary Clements is doing a group buy I think. I may have to give up on my self engineered one and bite the bullet. I was going to mount a twin tank cross flow type and plumb it my self BUT Porsche decided to design their own couplings fittings so I would have to do more adapter work and I dont know if its all worth it considering the aluminum shroud work I would have to do. SHEEEEESH!
Its all about surface area. if your gonna increase the operating temp or horsepower then you need to increase your cooling area by the same amount. one thing no one answered was the cooling difference between the tube through fin type and the twin tank cross flow. they just said it was more effecient. I would like to know by how much more.

If you plan to track your car at all go for the Cargraphics. My car has been modified for higher HP and the S cooler just can't do the job. My oil temps on the track with the OAT in the 70's are at the 10 O'clock position (mid 200's). FWIW

Hi Mark,
I wish I could say the same.
But then again you're just plain cool and unflustered anyways.
I have a Cargraphics cooler coming though . It is all part of the learning process I guess. Spend twice learn once.

My wrench currently has my car and is in the process of doing what OG was talking about - fitting twin coolers. He is using my car as test mule, but he feels very confident he can produce the kit at just a little more $ than the S kit and half the cargraphic. I will keep you posted. Mike W

I went from S to Cargraphic also.
Ahhhhhh! Temperature is well controlled now. The S was pushed to keep it below 10:00 on a hot day at the track, and I ended a couple of sessions early because of it..
