It doesn't get hot enough here for me to justify the cost of the cargraphics unit. Maybe I'll just do the fan speed trick and see how it goes, but would love to see cost effective oil cooler.

Please do that, as I was contemplating the GT cooler from Gert.

I went to look at my car yesterday. My wrench is using twin Mocal coolers. The install looks pretty good. He is an ex racer and has used this system on his porsche race cars. The install should be finished by this weekend. I will report next week.

Mike,

I think you can tell from the interest here that there is a strong demand for a cooler that is close to the CarGraphics in efficiency, but not as costly. Talk to your wrench about packaging and marketing such a kit if it seems to fill this need.

Steve, It is his intention to produce a more affordable alternative to the more expensive coolers. While I have no financial interest in this project (other than buying a kit for my car) I believe in his expertise and feel he can deliver as promised. He has used this type system in various Porsche race cars and he believes it will be as good or superior to the one large cooler. I beleive many of the Porsche race teams use a similar two cooler system.

BTW there are some DIY on Pelican and they even sell the adapters to go from the Porsche 30mm connectors to AN12 adpapters. I am reading stuff over there now. They used a 19 row Mocal twin tank design.
Here is a link to a DIY install with a 44 row aux cooler for an older 911.
if you are super handy you may be able to adapt some of this to a 993
application:

Has anyone though of cutting the truck tub where it protrudes under the
front bumper, then sealing it back up with some glass work? that would leave a huge area for a front mounted cooler like an old RS long cooler
and leave an exhaust area for the air. that protruding area of the tub houses the worthless jack that is in the trunk. IF that protrusion was gone we'd be in business.

The proper way to exhaust the air would be through the hood, assuming the pressure isn't too high. Yipes. You aren't really thinking of doing that are you? I'm telling Merritt.

Its just a big piece of fiber glass right ?then fashion some ducting over to each duct. where does the RS cooler vent its air behind that big air dam.
You'd still have 95% of your truck left. I dont know I still havent given up on this yet-- $2000 for a $150 cooler core just irks me! and pelican sells the adapters needed. so twin mocals sounds like the best way. I talked to Mike W today and it looks like they know what they are doing!

For those interested, I recently installed the RUF aux oil cooler on my 96 993TT. It very closely resembles the cargraphic unit and the DIY info on p-car.com is more than adequate to lead you thru it. Had it on the track at Road Atlanta on a hot day and the temp just reached the 9:00 position. Cost was less than half the cargraphic unit, just a little more than the turbo s cooler. No affiliation with RUF etc, just a satisfied customer.

Here's the web site: http://shop.ruf-automobiles.com/engl...f?lang=english The part number I installed is R64 200 207 11, paid 704.11 Euros/ $850 in April. Shipping is additional and I think varies with method.

What you want to do is then use a carbon fiber hood with an air outlet and make an air exit through the trunk ducted to the hood. The high pressure over the hood will pull the air through the cooler. Your simple project seems to be getting a little more complex.
