Default 40,000 miles...too high for a 96 turbo?

Just a quick question as I am new to the turbo scene. I am in the market for a 993 turbo and have found an awesome car that I think I am going to buy. I am trying to guage what I should pay for the car. The car is a 40,000 mile Polar Silver/Blk 1996 TT. It is very clean, and appears to run perfect.
Every time I ask the question I keep getting the response "that mileage is way up there for a TT" and things of the like. Am I better off looking for a lower mileage car, or is 40K no big deal on a 993TT?

Any advice is greatly appriciated!

Thanks!
Aaron

I have a 97 turbo with 129K miles, bought with 3K miles. Runs like a scalded cat and no major expenses other than oil and tires.

That color combo is one of the most popular, and probably the easiest to resale. 40,000 well-driven, well-serviced miles is NOTHING... the car isn't even broken in yet. Mine has 63,000 miles and is great. Things to pay attention to:

leaky steering rack
corroded aux fan resistors
leaky hydraulic clutch slave cylinders
condition of shocks
condition of clutch
condition of turbo units

A comprehensive PPI (pre-purchase inspection) is definitely in order.

From a dealer, this car should sell at around $64-65
From a private party, this car should sell for around $60

Good luck... keep us posted

Mine is a 96 with 33K miles.. I probably paid too much to get a lower mileage example. If I were to do it again, I'd get a higher mileage speed yellow one.

Cool, thanks for the advice! I will have the Porsche Exchange in Chicago doing the PPI if all goes well. Meanwhile tonight is the night I get to drive it I can't wait!

I like the Porsche Exchange too, I have about a few new P-cars from them in the past. The car as well as myself are in South Bend Indiana.

Scalded cat. I like that.

My car was purchased this Feb with 51k miles. I have since put 5k miles on it.

Running sweet now (for the most part).

Sold my nsx about 2 months ago and have been looking for a tt since. Was going down to S-field, MO. to look at a 96 @ Premier this morning but they sold it last night. Took the day off work and everything. I'm in some serious auto lust for a tt right now! Good luck with yours.

Another valuation question ..
same car as above with 30k miles??
polar/black, 30k, 2 owner, (pvt seller), car needs 30k service, front brake rotors, front bumper touchup for stone chips, all original paint, interior is clean with a little wear on drivers seat.
What correct price net to seller, (e.g. i pay for the above maintance)

To the prices quoted above for the 40k mile car, add about $2k for the lower mileage, then subtract about $2K for the service and brake rotors. Front bumper touchup is normal wear and tear, as is a little bit of wear on the driver's seat. For a private transaction, assuming a PPI doesn't come up with any surprises, I'd say around $60k, maybe $62k... its all about how bad you want it, and how bad he wants to sell it, and how good a negotiator you are.

If you liked the '96TT at Premier, why not the '96TT at RPM? More miles but cheaper
