Grinding downshifting to 2nd - Now what?

I am having some issues with my tranny as well; When then engine (and the tranny fluid) is hot, sometimes it is difficult to go from in gear to neutral. That is, there is some resistance, and I have to pull pretty hard to get it out of gear. If I blip the throttle, I dont have any issues. Also, when the tranny is cold, no issues.
Would going to a different gear oil be enough to maybe offset the problem? I want to put off replacing my synchros as long as possible.

Hatchy,
I'm no expert, but I'd be suspicious of a dragging clutch... a clutch that is not getting fully released. I'd start looking into hydraulic issue... bleed the slave cylinder... maybe flush the fluid.

Steve, did both, but I'll have it re-checked. The thing that bugs me is that it is only a problem when the car is warmed up, if it is a problem with the hydraulic system, wouldn't it happen all the time? Thanks

tranny fluid?
Shortly after buying my 57k-mile 97, the same thing happened to me. I immediately had the 60k service done, which included new tranny fluid. Haven't had the problem since. <crossing fingers>
