Question Fabspeed Muffler Bypass

First Post, Greetings Everyone!
I am thinking about installing the Fabspeed Muffler Bypass, did anyone had any problems with the State (NJ) Inspections when it comes to the noise levels. Also, will my ECU be effected. Thanks.

Welcome aboard.
Answer #1... no, I've had absolutely zero problems with New Jersy Inspections. Of course, I've never been to NJ...
Answer #2... no ECU issues whatsoever.

Thanks for the reply! I hear California is HOT this time of the year, especially the burning part!

They inspect your cars for noise levels? The muffler bypasses are very easy to install. Even if there is some form of annual inspection in NJ where your car would fail due to noise, these can be swapped out in 20 minutes and then reinstall the factory mufflers for the test. If you are maybe referring to a smog inspection, there is no impact to test results with the muffler bypass.

This is a great TT mod. I have sold a bunch of these to TT folks. They are much louder than the current exhaust (but then so are most Civics) expecially at idle.

I'm in NJ and am currently in the process of adding the fabspeed bypasses. I would agree that it is a 20 minute job - IF there are no issues with severely rusted bolts/hex bolts. The passenger side hex bolt on my muffler strap wouldn't budge last night so I sprayed it with WD-40 and I will try to loosen it again tonight. I did find that jacking the car up on the side you're working makes it easier to get the muffler out.

I recently had my car inspected before I put my bypasses on so I cant say if they will pass, but I don't see why they shouldn't. You get two years between inspections in NJ so put your bypasses on and switch 'em in a couple of years if you have trouble. In response to time needed, I think 20 min is a little optimistic. It took me just under an hour to do the whole job including putting the car on a lift and lowering it a few times mid job to get the tips adjusted just right. Hint--do it on a cool car or wear oven mitts
