Default SSR wheels

Hi guys,

Any thoughts on SSR wheels? Price-wise they seem relatively inexpensive compared to the fikse's and ruf for example (about $2k less or so for a set). Any issues I should know about? I am not heavy track use, but i would llike to be able to track it or autocross occasionally. Should I just keep my stock for track use with racing tires?

I'd appreciate any input.

Mario,

I have SSR GT3 18" s and I just went to put tires on them and found out the 2 rear (yes, BOTH) have a crack in them.

I am still waiting the reply on whether they can be fixed or not. If they can, the repair may not hold. It is hard to fix a crack in a 3pc rim.

My advice for SSR 3pc rims........run away

They are from overseas and there is no sending them back to get any new pcs fitted on them.

I am real carful and never hit anything. They are real soft. They do have 3 DE's Limerock which is a rough track, I am guessing that's where the damage occurred.

Keep your stock rims just so you have a back up and/or track rims.

The main reason for cracks and bends on alloy wheels is because they are made to be particularly lightweight. Usually, these wheels are made of soft and frale materials. More suited for smoother rather than our typical bumpy roads.

Lightweight??? While these are really nice wheels totally open exposing the brake caliper/rotor and I have several customers with them but they are anything but light. They are heavier than stock by 5+ lbs easy (estimated from lifting the wheel on the car in the shop today).

Dunno. They may be heavier than the stock hollow spokes, but they are lighter than most non-custom aftermarket wheels. Maybe not the GT3, but the GT1, GT2, GT7 and Competition models are very lightweight.

My dealer has told me the Fikse'a are 19.8 lbs front and 21.8 lbs rear. I think these are about 1-1.5 lbs heavier than the stock. AmI correct in this? The Techarts are 23.5 lbs each.

The factory 993 Turbo hollow spoke wheels are 18.95 lbs and 25.13 lbs front and rear respectively.

I keep having customer issues with these wheels. The seat for the lugnuts seem to be designed more for a 996 than a 993/911. The seat on the 996 lug bolt is a little flatter than the ball shape of the 911s. I have 2 customers recently that had taper seat and then ball seat lug nuts. Neither of these fully seated on the rims. They both were only wearing on the very inside of the lug nut, and you could see that the wheels had been walking a little. Not very safe. Does anyone know the lug nuts that work with these wheels???

Bob, as far as I know, the older lug nuts and the 9x6 lug bolts have the same ball shape. The same goes for the 993/9x6 wheel lug holes. Many 993 wheels were specified and installed by the factory on 9x6 cars with lug nuts.

That is what I thought too Viken. They are very close, but it does appear that the washer on the 9x6 lug bolt is just a touch flatter that the 911 ball lug nuts. It is not by much though. All I know for sure is that these wheels do not seat properly with a variety of lug nuts on a 993...

Thanks for the help guys. it looks like I'll go with the Fikse's. Now I just have to decide whether to go with the Black centers with my silver car or the satin silver finish!

Any pictures out there of a silver 993 with black wheels? I don't see the combo much...

TMario... Which SSR wheels were you interested in? I too am looking for new shoes on my Silver C2S and debating on Silver, Gunmetal, or Black Centers for my car. I too would like to visualize a Silver car with Black centers.

Here are the SSR wheels I was thinking about.

Phatbutt,

I like those. in general I am looking for the 5 spoke look. SSR GT1's or FIKSE FM5. I just saw the Enkei's RC5 which look nice.
