chance to buy a nice 993 Turbo and curious about value
I have an opportunity to buy a one-owner 993 Turbo with 35,000 miles. Runs great, immaculate--looks brand new inside, always garage-kept. I don't know a thing about value. Can you give me some hints from the forum? I want to follow through and buy the car, but I don't want over pay.
Agree with joejenie, also color combination, specs, any paintwork or modifications could impact the price. Here is a recent comparable sale for you, a 26k mile midnight blue TT sold this week for $142k on BaT:
Everything works on this car. All the rubber seals still supple, it drives so nicely and shifts and pulls through all gears wonderfully. Interior is truly in mint-like condition. Arena red over black leather. Normal incidence of minor paint chipping in front, and maybe two other marks around the car. To be honest, this was the first time I had ever driven a 993 Turbo, and I was pretty speechless. I thought my 997 was righteous, but this car...wow. And MT to boot!
I will also admit to struggling with the key fob, trying to start the thing.
I'm going to stay away from a value answer but I hope you end up with it. Arena red is stunning and if you were speechless after one drive??? Just wait til it's actually yours!
The key FOB is very easy. There is a light that lights up in the clock dial, at around 4 o'clock, which needs to be extinguished with key at second position in order to start. When the light is out, you can then start the car. If its on, click the button again to turn it off.
so this car has had its driver door replaced, and of course it has been painted. The inspector indicates it's and excellent job, and the whole side was apparently painted to match. He says it looks factory, but has a slightly different texture.
Provided this is the extent of its damage history, how might this fact alone effect value in the long-term?
It's certainly something but not the end of the world. I would find out why it was replaced and was there any other associated damage. If ends up only the door was damaged and was replaced nicely, I think if it was a 150k car in your mind before, it's probably a 140k now.

When the car was about 6 months old, a 16 yr old driver with a two-day old drivers license hit the door in a parking lot. Turns out the owner kept the original VIN label from the original door. I pick it up today and deliver it to the shop where work will begin to get it closer to perfect. That will give me a couple of weeks to figure out where I will keep it. May have to sell the 997. This forum, as usual, has been fantastic! I'm an ignorant Porsche consumer, but getting slightly smarter every day. The people here have been kind, informative, and unbelievably helpful. I feel Arena red is close to being the ‘Signature Color’ for the 993tt, maybe due to in-period marketing materials. Sounds like a wonderful car. I do think you’d want to budget some $ for ‘re-commissioning’ costs and some known-failure updates, search this forum but eg installation of check valves in the turbo oiler supply lines will preserve your turbos. I recently read a book that is Gospel in the Aviation community,
by Mike Busch. Half the book is a warning about the evil effects sitting on air-cooled, horizontally opposed engines! Low mileage can be a mixed blessing.

My ‘96 turned 45K yesterday!
The car went directly (zero stops) to my local indie for exactly what you suggest, including a few painful moves that just make sense because the engine will be out. (like a new clutch) I'm an ignorant consumer, and an ignorant owner, and consequently I need to have confidence in the car's reliability. I intend to drive it!
