Beautiful midnight blue TT for sure, they are actually BBS LMs
If your doing a test drive it's really hard to pin point what to look for, I think you'll get a pretty good feel if the car feels off. But also consider this car has been sitting for years so who knows what strange noises it could produce.
I was able to look at the 993 Turbo today and soon before me arriving I was able to get the Compression and Leak-down results. Unfortunately, the tires are really old, the left rear has a crack and was almost flat, so I didn’t get to test drive the car. Overall the cosmetics look really good for a 60k mile car, all OEM paint, it’s fair share of stone chips but no major scratches/dents and exactly what I would expect for a car with this mileage.
Leak-Down Cyl #1 – 2% Cyl #2 – 3% Cyl #3 – 3% Cyl #4 - 14% Cyl #5 - 55% (tech said it was an exhaust leak) Cyl #6 - 3%
From the Compression and Leak-down results, should I plan on a Top End or Full rebuild? I didn't buy the car since I need to get a better estimate of the repairs needed to bring it back to life. From what I've heard, since the car has sat for a few years, it'll need a few hundred miles to burn out the deposits but it still won't fix the Cylinder 5 issue.
Once I cleaned the paint up on the hood, it didn't look too bad in regards to chips
The only cosmetic issue I noticed was on the spoiler, the paint seems to be drying out and having micro-cracks
I'm sure you were disappointed to not be able to test drive it. I assume you went back home after seeing it but I don't think I'd make the purchase without test driving it first. I'd also ask them to clean the car up so you can get a better idea of the real condition of the cosmetics. I absolutely love that color combo so good luck!
I flew up with some microfiber towels, bottle of CarPro ECH20, and my paint gauge. If you look in the top picture, I was able to clean off a few panels to check for chips/scratches, etc. overall it looks like it should for having 60k miles. If I did buy the car, I'd do a full paint correction, ceramic coating process to the car and bring it back to life.
I'm going to call around to a few Porsche specialists in LA to get their insight and my potential bill for sorting the mechanicals.
The shops locally in LA that I got into contact with are confirming it'll be a top-end rebuild a minimum and "while you're in there" items will add up quickly. The owner is still looking for market price for it running in it's current condition so I'm walking from the deal. I think he's a bit delusional
