Default suspension!!??Viper Bob!!

I took off today to play with my kids.
after playing some football, some hoops
and going to the skate park I decided to
take out the mdinte blue beast for a 20 minute
spin on a closed track in Malyasia before the
rains hit here in southern Cal. As I went around
some turns at 110 to 120mph and the front end
felt floaty. it went where I wanted it but still
abit unsure. It was easy to keep in my lane
but it was a tad bit numb. I would prefer this
be a bit tighter befroe I go faster. The turns
were big easy turns and the road was not the
best but it seems to me I could have felt more
planted. The car has 38K miles and stock suspension
I bet. thoughts??

OldGuy,

It felt floaty on the front end because your dampers are DOA (Dead On A-arm). The reason it floats is without your dampers, you are riding on the continuous ocillations of the springs. This plus the fact that your ride height / center of gravity is high enough to clear a soccer ball on the pavement... Take a trip up here and I'll take you for a ride on a track and you will experience "planted"....

Seriously, every shock that I have seen with 25K+ miles has been worthless. At some point you will need to consider replacement shocks. Whether you want to retain the stock springs or acquire ROW springs with maybe Bilstein HDs, or go to PSS9s is something we can discuss when you are ready. It is a big expense, but pays big dividends to show you ways your can can handle that you never thought possible...

Take a ride with Steve and remember that he does not even have the bigger sway bars.....

BTW - The Muff bypass is on its way....

As you have probably read, the stock shocks can barely make 20,000 miles. If you still have USA springs, you are getting ready to tumble down the slippery slope. You can find some used ROW springs (oh... I happen to have a set to sell), but you're going to need shocks. Seems pointless to put the OEMs back on, and do this again in 20,000 miles. Bilstein HDs with the ROW springs make a nice package, and can save you a little money over the PSS-9s. But not too much. Wait til you see and drive my car on Saturday. The PSS-9s are pretty darn sweet.

If you are braver than me, you may tackle the suspension change over yourself. I watched Viperbob do it, and that guy knows all the tricks. You might give some thought to doing what I did, and wait until you're ready for a major service (45,000 miles, for example), and take the car to uncle Bob for a suspension swap and complete service. You'll meet some great NorCal Porsche guys, have some tasty BBQ, and get the job done right without too much strain on your wallet. As a bonus, you get a nice road trip! See you Saturday.

OG, I must be dense, but I fail to understand your reference to malyasian tracks. Where are you doing this fast driving? Let me know and I'm on my way!

Lee My laywer told me no speeding in california even on
these isolated desert roads up here near Ridgecrest and
Trona. Even if there are no traffic officers around!! So
I ship my car via Hypersonic transport to malyasia. It like
the no affiliation clause we all do. I never speed in the USA
because its unlawfull! Even with all the roads that cut
off from 395 over to 178 and other roads, its just unsafe!

OG, okay, I understand. One of these days I'll have to come up and visit you so we can drive two midnight blue cars within the speed limit.

I'm willing to bet a polar silver TT and arena red TT might join you for some easy, safe cruising; well within the speed limit, of course.

We can do this, I'll talk to Steve this weekend and maybe
we can plan a trip to death valley feb time frame -cool weather.
We could all do some safe drivin under the speed limit on some really isolated roads around the panamints!!

Just looking at the map we could do a nice loop out hwy 178 from
Ridgecrest to hwy 190 then over to Lone Pine then back down
395. the only problem is there are a ton of lawbreaking speeders
on hwy 395, I dont think we should associate with such ruffians!

OG, that sounds good to me, even if we do have to have a PS and AR tagging along (just kidding Scott and Steve) .

Default Suspension upgrades

OldGuy

My car has 38,000 miles (also Midnight Blue) and I had the same feeling of floating at over 100 mph at Laguna Seca in early December. Installed the PSS9s a couple weeks ago and just returned from Sears Point. Even on full soft, the difference was amazing - very stable and confidence inspiring.

Doug, Viper Bob told me the same thing('PSS9's you needes'
he says)
I went to Kmart today and got a piggy bank. So far $1 and 36 Cents.
I am going to dig in my wifes purse tommorow when she is snoozing.
I should be albe to get up to $5. As soon as I get up to 3K I will
go up to bobs house for an beer laden install!
I could sell my motocross bike I guess.
OR Mike W. Could show me how to "do all the mods you want
AND STAY married!!"
