I almost crossed to the darkside
Last week my local dealer called..He has an 02 TT black/black that just came in on trade(for a cayenne )
The price was right..and he offered me a slightly less than fair price for my TT in trade. The deal was tempting..
But..I walked back outside to think it over and just stood and looked at my 993... And it hit me.. I have a classic car, possibly the finest car Porsche will ever build.I asked myself..and my dealer. Will the 996tt ever be a classic?
He understood..and I hopped in my 993 with a huge satisfied smile and drove home.

Good decision on your part. Compared with the 996TT, the 993 TT is considered more desirable by many die-hard Porsche fanatics. I have a friend who has a 993 TT with only 10km on it and he was quite surprised by the numerous requests to sell the car, with some eager buyers offering substantially above market price.

I think the tides are turing on the 993 Turbo . . . I am as diehard an older 911 fan as you can get. I drive a C2 Turbo for goodness sake, probably one of the most demanding daily driver cars you can get! I am also a huge fan of the 993 and 993 Turbo, but lately, the 996 Turbo has been looking really tempting, especially at the much reduced prices in the used car market. When put side by side, the 996 Turbo just looks so much more modern.
I will go against the grain and say that, even though the 993 Turbo is a classic, being aircooled and bug-eyed, I don't think it will reach collector car status like the 73 RS or even the late 80's Turbos. It isn't quirky enough for that. It will likely end up a cult car like the 1989 944 Turbo "S" models, but not to the point where prices increase dramatically over time or even hold at the current levels.
The price compression from the 996 Turbo and the 997 Turbo will push it down. I can't wait, so I can pick a 993 Turbo or 996 Turbo up for cheap

Oh Seljan...If you, or anyone else on this board, were ready to trade the 993TT away, I trust we would all have equal opportunity to purchase your vehicle. Like the Arena Red track 993TT, not for me, but I know the quality and effort of it's owner, and would buy it if that's what I was looking for.
Just in case you can't read through the lines...you have a great machine, great color.

I dont think that will happen. WHy? numbers. the 993TT was made
in such small numbers that the CGT will be more common in the US
than the 96 OR the 97 TT. 1200 of 98's and 600 97's. I think the lines
flow better on the 993TT. I have had many 996's go by me and not
spot them till they are in the mirror whereas a 993 always catches my
eye and that was before I bought one. Too many things in the 993
favor, to make it desirable. Especially the TT.
One year of 996TT's production eclipsed the entire run of 993TT's.
you could be right though,we all know what an opinion is worth,
an opinion and a dollar will get you a cup of coffee!

I'm with you guys. I looked hard and long... Repeated trips to both local dealers... And just couldn't bring myself to buy a 996 Turbo. It just seemed to lack soul. If a car can lack soul...
When I heard the 993tt was available, I was down there within 45 minutes.

When the 997TT comes out and if they "improve" the appearance(whatever that means to each person), then really the only thing going for the 996TT will be eclipsed. I think its safe to assume the 997 in all its versions will be higher performing than the 996. The 993 will still have its uniqueness of being the last aircooled Porsche with a direct lineage to 40years of the essence of what the 911 was up that point and for many on this forum, that is priceless. Get your 993's while you can. There will always be the 997's, 998s, 999s(?) etc...

I find the market for 993s to be very interesting. I see that the C2S and C4S still command high prices, and the delta to an equivilent TT is actually quite small. I think the reason may be misconceptions about maintenance and reliability issues with the TT. Anybody remember the dreaded 912E (1976, I think). This was a 911 body with a VW type IV engine. People bought them and thought they'd be collector cars because they would be so much cheaper to maintain than a "real" 911. Just wasn't so. The same may happen when people begin to realize that they can own the pinnacle of air-cooled Porsches (TTS and 959 aside), a true 180+ mph car, and there is literally no more upkeep than its NA brethren.
When I was looking for a C2 or a C2S, I always felt that I'd like to have the areo kit. But then everytime someone would ask "is that a turbo?", I'd have to confess no, it isn't. I feel like the 993TT is the REAL DEAL, and right now is an incredible bargain. Wish I could afford to buy a second one!
