Default New Wheels

I am going to put a set of '04 996 Turbo wheels on my 993TT. The chrome just has to go...

Anybody think this is a bad idea?

Thanks. I just don't want to do something to get me kicked out of Valhalla. If I ever make it that far.

But I just can't handle the chrome on this machine... Not for me anyway...

Tour18,

I was just looking at Vinnie's car and he has done this I think he has 315's on the rear and 235's? up front and they fill the wheel well very nice. Sweet set up. Go for it.

Viperbob has the late model turbo wheels with 315s/235s on a black 993TT. A great combo.

Cool. I'm glad you guys approve.

I got the set this afternoon, but there is only one rear. The other is on order and will be here next week... Take-offs from a brand new 996 Turbo...

This afternoon, I saw a 993 C2S, silver with the '02 996 five spoke like on my Boxster S. It was lowered and really looked sweet. The wheels looked ten times better on the 993 than they ever have on a 996 or a Boxster.

They took me upstairs and they have a LARGE selection of take off sets for everything from Boxsters to Cyannes.

I love the 996TT wheels on the 993TT. They have a little more angular look that I think is beautiful contrast to the rounded lines of the 993TT. I get LOTS of compliments on the wheels...

Also, GET THE 315s on the 11" rears. If they tell you they don't fit, TELL THEM TO CALL ME!!!!

Yeah ViperBob, that's the look. Cool.

I got Michellin's on the wheels. The rears are 295's. Guess I'll have to wait for the next set of rears to go to 315's. The rears are 11's and I swear I thought the fronts were 8.5's. But I just looked at the specs and it shows 8's for the front of a 996 Turbo...

Aren't those 996TT wheels rather heavy? Or are they making Hollow Spokes now?

The 996TT are hollow spokes. I think early 2001 models may have been solids. The fronts are comparable weight to the 993TTs, and the rears are like 1-2 lbs heavier, but they are 1" wider.

Tour18, the GT2 has 8.5" wheels on the front but they are solid spoke and weigh considerably more.

If anyone locally here wants a set of wheels like Bob's let me know. I can't use mine anymore due to the brake system I have

Gosh, I better check. I just assumed they were plain old 996 Turbo wheels...

You have me wondering now. When I was writing the first post I actually wrote 8.5 because that is what I thought I read on the wheel. I went so far as to check the specs at the Porsche site for a 996 Turbo and of course it said 8 fronts so I had to be wrong about what I thought I saw. So I didn't say what size they are...

Surely they aren't GT2 wheels. I'll find out after Christmas. If they are GT2 wheels, do I not want them because of the weight? And won't the rears be 12" wide?

Being a turbo newbie is a bitch.

Oldguy.

I'm telling Merritt on you. Be sure to find out if the 01 Turbo wheels are hollow spoke or solid. There's been a bit of a debate on that subject, and the solids are quite a bit heavier.
