I have found a few 993 TT's. One I have found sounds like a good deal, 97 TT Black/Black 11K, BUT NO service records, NO window sticker, front bumper repaint, after a carfax I found out that it was a porsche fleet vehicle and I would be the 5TH owner. The guy wants $70,000. Does that sound OK or should I keep looking????

11K aint too shabby, A dealer would want
80K plus for it. If its checks out PPI then it maybe
a very good deal. I dont know if the owner thing
is bothersome or not. 11K miles is hard to beat.
Just look it over careflully do your PPI and if it drives
right and you are happy- gofer it.

I am also hunting for the right 993 Turbo. This effort takes patience and diligence on the buyer's part (unless time and money are not a concern). This is a terrific Porsche model but it is a complex one and does not have any factory warranty remaining (except for body corrosion coverage).

Paint Work. I don't fret over front and rear bumper cover repaints, but any other painting... I look into harder.

Maintenance/Service Records. Performance, durability, and reliability of the car's components is very dependent on timely and proper preventative maintenance. The bare minimum record for Porsches is the Maintenance Book that comes with the car (kept with the Owners Manual, Stereo Manual, etc.). Is this book missing on your candidate or are none of the services stamped/checked? If this was a Porsche Fleet vehicle there should be records on the car at the dealership that maintained it and stamps in the car's book.

A pre purchase inspection is highly recommended but it will not make up for missing service history. Everything else being equal between car candidates the one without the service/maintenance history is worth less money.

I purchased a 97 back in September. If I recall correctly, you can go to a Porsche dealer, have them inspect it, and purchase an extended warranty. You might want to do this in addition to a PPI performed by an excellent mechanic.

My biggest concern would be the lack of service records. But then, even with service records, a big repair may be "accidentally" omitted.

But I think the 70k is a very good price. For comparison, I purchased a 97 TT, 25k miles, Ocean Blue/Tan, full maint. records, K40 front/rear radar, Ibach springs for $69.9k. Also got a free car cover and factory springs with it. No window sticker though.

If you are uncomfortable with the car in question, I'd say don't do it. Wait for another. Also, noticing that you are in Maryland, I very very very very strongly recommend you absolutely avoid a certain exotics dealership located in Potomac. Don't wanna say their name in a public forum, but their initials are C.C.

I just purchased a '96 midnight blue/cashmere with sport seats and 27k miles from a dealer with warranty for $66k for reference.

I believe the Porsche warantee is only for cars that have been certified and sold by Porsche dealers.

Thanks for all the replies.

I had the seller do a PPI and two flags came up. The car has been lowered, with what springs I do not know. Second the dealer wrote something about the fog lights. I will investigate more on Monday.

The seller also says that it has a extended warranty until June 2005.

I will let you all know what is going on with this one.

Thanks folks for the recent purchase price information.

On the suspension springs and lowering. Many owners prefer the car at lower than the US Spec ride height. Search the site, there has been a lot of discussion on this subject.

If that's all the PPI showed, you have no problems, and should give the car serious consideration. Most on this board prefer the car lower than the US "bumper-height" requirement and there are various springs that can be used to accomplish that. Fog lights? who cares?

Well, after speaking with someone from the board , I found that the whole car has been repainted and the owner keeps giving everyone a different story about it.

The hunt is still on. Anyone know of any clean 1997 993 TT, Black, Red or Arena Red with under 30K miles PLEASE email me @ srt10viper@hotmail.com

Rob - why focus only on 97s? There is little difference between 96 and 97 (I presume you know what they are).

1st gear is better in the 97's, the ECU is programmable (more boost), fewer 97's made than 96's and its the last year for the air cooled engines.

I will search for the right one. PLUS the hunt is always the best part

Acually, 1998 was the last year for the air-cooled engines (in the USA). 1997 was the last of the "normal" 993TT, the 993TT "S" model being produced in 1997 and 1998.

1st gear is a little stronger... still not up to a 5000 RPM, side-step-the-clutch drag race start. And the ECU is replaceable... you can get a factory new 1997 ECU for ~$1500. If a great 1996 pops up, don't let it pass you by.
