I have used and appreciated this site for a long time - hope you get some help figuring it out (not my area of expertise, sorry).

I'm a software architect/developer, if I can contribute time/skill to keep it running I'd be willing.

Echo the Go Fund Me idea. We can buy new servers and maintain internet service for not much money I think..

Hi Mike, I tried to direct message you as we can probably easily help. I'm not sure the forum allows direct-messaging with my account yet. Please PM me your email so I can get in direct contact. Thanks.

Hi Mike, this is disgusting :-(

If it is any help I will offer you one of my servers for free. The data can be retrieved using archive.org ... if you need help doing this then my time and offer is free as it's also proved invaluable for me.

Simply PM me and I can do the rest, provide you full FTP admin access, email etc. Once I've retrieved all info then all you need to do is update your NS1 and NS2 to my server.

To Sagras74, here is a working link for you regards, ISV Cleaning from Mikes site: https://web.archive.org/web/20160711...-_ISV_Cleaning

Best wishes,
Mark

Glad to see the community rallying behind PCARWORKSHOP! So far, I've cleaned 3 subpages but will keep digging.

As far as saving the site, there may be a few ways forward: set up some sort of go-fund to pay for server hosting, etc and create a new site or create a sticky on RL to drop all of the info; the look and feel will, of course, not be what it is.. The quickest route might be the sticky, the preferred is the seperate site. My time is limited but I'll volunteer for either.

Let me know how I can help. This site is an invaluable resource and I've always referenced it since I bought my car in 2011. I really hope you don't pull the plug Mike J .

This was my thought too. Wiki is not the best format for effectively static content, you need somthing like a CMS (content management system). I've been poking around, there's no shortage of free CMS out there. One interesting one in particular is Joomla. It's opensource, and full featured to allow for stricter supervision of editing of content.

PM me if this is something you're interested in exploring and I can assist.

+1 on not using the wiki format. I registered just because I don't want to see pcarworkshop go away. So, as a former IT guy, I agree with several others who say wiki is not the best solution. Although I am not up to speed on the latest and greatest (remember, former IT), I used to use wordpress for a lot of stuff. Just needed SQL and you were good to go. People were able to make comments, but they would first have to be approved by the admin (or someone with admin rights) before they would post. I have never heard of Joomla until this post but sounds pretty good as well. Sounds like there are a lot more experienced guys here than me on current stuff, but I also still own a couple of domains so may be able to offer some help that way. Although, since someone has already offered up some servers..... And if you still need some help, let me know.

Just awesome the support Mike is getting here. I love pcarworkshop and use it religiously. I would totally donate to help out. If I was technical enough I would help. Let's keep the discussion going and make this happen.

And Mike, thank you for all you do and have done. Much respect. You don't know me personally but have been a standup guy being there when I have ask question. As have so many other on the forum.

I'm sure Mike will correct me if I'm wrong, but I think it's more of a time problem on his end rather than a monetary problem. So I'll offer some time also, if you need help with non-technical stuff.

for hosting you can use a virtual private server. the medium linux box is $6.50 per month for 30GB of storage, 1GB RAM, 1.5TB bandwidth.

no affiliation except as a satisfied customer. search for "chicagovps"

I too have used this site for reference and would be very sad to see it go wayside.

This site has been problematic - been dealing with lots of attacks and bots that dump crap into the wiki all the time. I did not want to wholesale lockdown the site since there are people (like above) who will help out with it and need access. Those specific pages should have been protected so not sure why they have been nuked.

From a content point of view, the site is pretty static so a Wiki might have been a wrong choice - not that many Porsche people have directly updated the site, and there is been minimal supervision of the content - hence the current problems.

Here is my bigger issue. The servers/network this runs on has been provided by another Rennlister (thank you Rob!), but now the servers are end of life and need to be shut decommissioned, and the company supporting this is also being shut down.

I am faced with a dilemma, either shut the site down, or go through the massive piece of work to move it to another hosting site (which I have not looked for yet). I do not have the time right now, but might next year if I retire. The wiki software itself is old and needs updating, which is why there are security holes.

Honestly, most of the content can be found elsewhere. The traffic to the site has not been super strong since its a very focused audience it serves. I am also losing enthusiasm to keeping it updated since I do not actually use any of the content at all.

Opinions?

Cheers,

Mike
Hey Mike,

I create "cloud" software for a living and there are plenty of great blogging platforms that handle all of the complexity of running the infrastructure to run a web site so you can focus on the content and let the data center experts run it like a well oiled machine like our cars. Keeping hackers from compromising your content is a full time job for experts.

I personally like wordpress

https://wordpress.com/

Millions of users and tried and true. They have great templates and other features to make it point and click easy to create a great looking website, so might be a good chance to refresh what you have.

If you need help, LMK via PM.
