Need Advise
On Dec 24th I purchased a 1996 993 from an out of state Porshce dealer. Just what I wanted a black cab with low miles and a Porshce warranty.
I traded in a Lexus and paid the difference in cash. As of today they have not provided me with the title to the vehicle. I have been getting the run around for over three weeks.
The dealer said they paid the lien off but the lien holder can't find the title. Carfax showed a clear title in Texas. However, I called Tx Dept of Motor Vehicles and they did not show the car(by vin)had ever been titled in TX, but only registered in TX.
I prepared, but have not sent, a letter saying if I did not have good title in my possession by Jan 30th I would rescind the sales contract and demand my money back (they have since sold the Lexus).
Am I going overboard? Over-reacting? Should I give them more time? I like the car and got a good price. Just worried about title issues down the road when I sell the car.

You are entitled to clean title on your vehicle, so I don't think you are overreacting. You should be able to get a replacement title assuming that the lienholder releases its interest in the car. The dealer should know how to handle this...it is common for a pink slip to disappear so getting a replacement title should be routine. In my view the dealer should be doing this work for you, and I wouldn't let them off easy. 3 weeks is plenty of time. I'd get the general manager on the line and let him know in no uncertain terms that you expect title to be delivered pronto. Good luck.
I assume you already have the car.
I might get the required state forms from the net and then fax them to the dealer and ask them to fax back or send. Then you can go to your DMV and get a new title.

I would take the VIN number to your local Porsche dealer and ask them to help verify who was the previus or first owner. They can do that with the VIN number, and if the car only had one previus onwer then you should be able to track down in which state the car was titled.
Hope that help.

I bought my car in October. The owner 'lost' the title, and had to order a replacement. It took the state of Nevada almost 6 weeks to send out the replacement! I just received it at Christmas. If the lienholder can't find it, and they ordered a replacement it will probably take several weeks. State DMV's are usually like most gov't agencies, and take their own sweet time. Good luck, but I wouldn't sweat it yet!
