Default Instrument LED - Once for ALL

So, everybody knows about this 200ish posts thread : https://rennlist.com/forums/993-foru...93-gauges.html

I'll make it simple : 3 Solutions are proposed. I was curious and wanted to bring my contribution. So I bought the 3 solutions to try, compare and inform you.

1- B8.4D-WHP White from : https://www.superbrightleds.com/more...-car/223/1040/

2- 12v B8.5D 509T Twistlock 3xLED from : http://www.crazyleds.co.uk/509T-3xPLCC-2-LED.html

3- Combination of bulb and socket with 74 LED Bulb - 3 SMD LED from : https://www.superbrightleds.com/more...-car/228/1067/

and socket B8.5D 509T Twistlock from : http://www.crazyleds.co.uk/509T-twist-lock-holder..html

Here are my comments:

1- Easy to install but you have to pry the metal wings on the socket
Very bright even though there is only one LED at the top
I would prefer these but my white faceplates have some defects that are too apparent with these LEDs.

2 - Easy to install but you have to pry the metal wings on the socket
Brightness is perfect but more tame than #1 even though it has 3 LEDs

3- Same look as #2 but you have to insert the LED in the socket
Harder to install because the metal wings are really small and hard to pry
Why get the trouble of buying sockets and bulbs from 2 companies when you can go with option #2.

Now I have 3 kits.... on only 1 993 unfortunately! 2 kits will be for sale soon in the marketplace. PM me if interested.

Hope you have as much fun as I do modding the Pcar! .... but wish your wish is not neglected as mine

Just a reminder to help the DIY :

A video I make to show how to pry the metal wings :

DIY to change the faceplates, bulbs and add bulbs : http://www.pcarworkshop.com/index.ph...ew_gauge_faces

You did a great thing without anyone asking for it, so I thank you. This is enough to push me over the edge and pull the trigger on this mod (in conjunction with a T-LED kit for the full LED immersion). The future is now!

Just two questions: were all of these variants dimmable and do you have an idea of where your brightness setting was when you took the above images?

All the options were dimmable and the picture was always set to most brightness, which I think is the best (not too bright).

Great comparison and contribution! I've not considered this upgrade but if/when I get to that point, this thread will be very helpful.

A comment on your writeup - you say (or I understood) the drawback of #3 is going to two different vendors instead of one (as in #2), yet it's the description of #2 that references two vendors. Did something get switched?

My bad. I just corrected it. #3 is going with 2 vendors and making the led yourself. But you have to deal with sockets that are hard to adapt and can break sometimes.

Thank you for the summary jg291446. Your post has motivated me to proceed with this improvement.
The LEDs you are recommending are for the gauge background lighting.
I was wondering how many to purchase and I ran into this post with that information.
For these background lighting LEDs, 10 bulbs are needed. 11 if you also have the OBC (on board computer).

There are 10 led bulbs (and 27 warning lights). You will need one extra bulb for cars with OBD (On Board Computer)

I suggest to buy 1 or 2 additional just in case.
