Default Oil pressure drops to zero, warning light comes on.

I was out on Mt Hamilton today and came to a road closure. Impressed to see a crew working early Saturday morning I chatted with the very cute flag operator before turning around.

After idling for a minute, I checked my gauges to see oil pressure pegged 0 and the oil and ! lights on. Car was idling happily.

I revved it to build some pressure and it seemed to misfire but quickly revved normally. Pressure gauge jumped up and a few sec later the lights went off.

I dismissed the event as an old car quirk and chose to continue rather than call a flat bed and ended up having an incredible run up Mines Rd to Livermore.

But there's still this voice saying "you f***ed up!"
Anyone else seen this or similar?
Any thoughts on investigative work? I can hear trophy telling me to change the oil.

I got a hot reading on the stick while picking up crew and it was at 1/4 stick, just how I like it.

Everything I've read & heard about the Metzger engine says the oiling system is rock solid, which is why I assumed it was instrumentation. But I wonder if there's any failure modes that present like this. Just trying to be a good owner.

It's pretty toasty out there today. What weight is your oil? Maybe the combo of being thin (15/40?) and dilution from fuel it causing low pressure at idle. I would start by changing to to 20/50
