Big Thanks to Andreas (AOW162435)
My spoiler had been making that suspect grinding noise leading me to believe that i needed to rebuilt the trans with a new bearing. I contacted Andreas (AOW162435) on a whim based on all the great work i've seen him do in the past posted on the forums. I read the DIY's and thought about tackling it myself but glad i didn't (More on that later). Sure enough, Andreas agreed to help.
I sent him the spoiler transmission along with a new bearing that i had ordered from Gert at Carnewal. Andreas notified me when the packaged arrived and updated me while he worked.
A few highlights:
Sounds like mine was in really bad shape which is why i'm glad i didn't try this myself! Surprising for a 39k mi 993.
I had noticed that the casing over the cable was becoming brittle and cracking off at the ends which i mentioned before sending. Sure enough, Andreas found a great solution
Just wanted to let Andreas know how much i appreciated his hard work! Even though a minor job, he took his time to make sure everything was perfect! Its guys like these that help make these forums a better place Reinstalled it today and it worked perfectly! Thanks man!

Thank you for entrusting your gearbox to someone as sketchy as myself - I enjoyed the rebuild. Pics below.

Exactly.
I've transitioned to a more sensible hairstyle.
At my advanced age, it's getting harder all the time.
I try.
You should walk outside and start scanning the skies...
- Condition of gearbox once I opened it:
- The worm gear in all of its rust & grease encrusted glory:
- All parts cleaned:
- Clean bevel gear:
- Clean worm gear with inner race of bearing still firmly in place:
- Sealed bearing pressed on:
- Heat shrink tubing repair:
- More heat shrink tubing goodness:
- Greased & ready to roll:
- Case closed:
Andreas

Mark, was your surprising comment as moderator meant as a joke, or the contrary?

I can speak for Mark - it was merely a joke. We've known each other too long.
