FB,

I was wondering the same thing (how to let PCNA that I have a 95 993) When I sent the card in..it also came back undelivered. I think PCNA still thinks I own my 99 Boxster.

I would love to update this with PCNA. Does anyone have any contacts?

Doc/Sasha and all who worked this issue. THANKS!!! This is great news for 95 owners

Finally!

Well I can attest to the fact that this is true. After countless phone calls and letters, mine got replaced last week. Thanks to everyone that has made this happen. The Rennlist and Pcarracing websites were instrumental in providing the research for the letters that I wrote.

Works like a charm. There is no PN for it yet.

MarkC,
It was nice meeting all you guys at the pub in the UK. To answer your question, My SA had mentioned that Porsche may be refunding owners who have already paid for wire harness replacements.

My 96 C4 has a built date of 10/95 and just happend to had the CE light on yesterday. Last night I took it in and the dealer did check the VIN and told me that my car is NOT in the recall YET !!! But to check with them next month. He told me that this is an OPEN recall and many other cars may be added on to the list later on...

Todd P, just dial 1-800-Porsche and they will take your contact info over the phone.
I have done this on all the Porsches I have owned.

This is really good news. Thanks to everyone who helped, especially E.J., who maintains a web site with pertinent info and a database of affected cars and their VIN’s, harness part numbers, etc.

Thanks to everyone who “harassed” their local dealers. Also thanks to everyone who submitted follow-up problem reports to the NHTSA. I’m sure my getting the NHTSA involved played a role in this recall.

Perhaps I will take my car in and see what they have to say about the part number on my harness.

To those who have had their cards returned as undeliverable, I believe you can call 1-800-PORSCHE and speak with the “customer commitment” center.

Wow...what a revelation.

Many thanks to the people involved and to the board itself (my membership app is in the mail already, or this would have for sure made me join).

Quick question...is this only for cars still under warranty, or is it for everyone?

I'm not original owner, and car has 90+k miles...not sure if I would be covered if my harness needs replacing?

KC (or anyone),
Did the dealer indicate a specific cut off either stated by the VIN or build date?

According to the District Service manager in the midwest region, the recall is for my 95 & 96. Not sure if there is a specific cutoff date.

Warranty should not an issue neither should ownership rank, since it is a general recall.

My 96 C2 has a build date of 10/95 as well, so I'd contact Porsche myself if the dealer is telling you that your vehicle is not covered or take it to another dealer.

Once again, if anyone needs copies of the letters that I sent to Porsche, feel free to contact me at smisra5@attbi.com

Could someone in the know please let us know the correct part number for the harness we WANT in the car. I know this has been covered but my search came up with nothing <img src="graemlins/c.gif" border="0" alt="[ouch]" /> My harness is original and I want to make sure I know what to ask for. Thanks to all who put in many hours working on this problem.

Brad,

My service advisor did not mention any cut off date or VIN or built date, but did say this is an OPEN recall so more cars may be added to this recall.

So does anyone have any insight as to what recourse for those of us that have already replaced the wiring harness and incurred the expense?

I checked with two dealers.

Both said my car was not included.

A bit of a surprise since it was manufactured
in 02/94.

Ms. Welch:

Old part number is typically: 993.607.016.01

New Part number is typically: 993.607.016.05

BUT I have record of 7 faulty harnesses with the new part number with the vin range of: 1942-4102. This is why the design and build dates of the harness is so important. See my site for more info on how to get these dates from the stickers.

Also, I have not received the fax yet from Dr. Ken, so I assure all those of you who emailed me that I will post it as soon as I get it.

If a car is covered by the warranty, but exhibits no problems, should one take advantage of the recall and have a new harness installed?
