Period correct Becker radio / CD player
Hi,
I have a 1997 993 and would like to install a Becker radio / CD player.
I like my car to by period correct so I'm looking for a Becker radio that could have been installed back in 1997.
I searched the Internet but I can't find a lot of information about the year of production of Becker car radio's.
What I do know is that Becker 'invented' the Traffic Pro system in 1999, so a Becker Indianapolis Traffic Pro and other Becker GPS equipped radio's are (probably) NOT period correct.
See http://www.mybecker.com/enUK/hauptna...cker-historie/
Question is which Becker radio's are (1997) period correct? Ideally I would like a radio that can also play CD's.
Looking for Becker radio's instead of Porsche branded Becker radio's since the latter seem to be very costly.

CDR-21 (CDR-210 US) radio with CD.
CR-21 (CR-210 US) radio with cassette.
Look for Becker Grand Prix. Many car manufactures used them in their cars.
I also believe that Porsche fitted Blaupunkt units in the 993. I know that they did in the 964. Maybe someone else can verify that.
Good luck with your search.

Becker branded radios are also expensive, and I think not made any more. I bought one a few years ago and replaced my CD-R 210. It has the correct amber lighting and iPod connectivity. Not cheap though but a nice upgrade.

I have a 2000 986 Boxster that came with one but I know that earlier Boxsters (1997-1998) had the CDR210.

Becker/Porsche CR-210 / CDR-210 993 production...
Beginning with late MY95's the Becker/Porsche model CR-210 AM/FM w/Cassette and CDR-210 AM/FM w/CD were introduced. A trunk mounted CD Changer (Sony mfgr. magazine type) could be controlled by either factory model radio. The two Becker/Porsche units utilized a Sony proprietary CD Changer protocol - from a circuit level perspective,, basically a dedicated unique input with a must have Sony protocol. Neither unit offered an AUX input in the traditional sense. Connectivity was basic euro ISO at the rear...
The Becker/Porsche CDR-220 was introduced for MY99 of the 986 Boxster and 996 Carrera. Control of a remote CD Changer continued, (now) with an unencumbered AUX input. Connectivity was basic euro ISO at the rear. The CDR-220's output voltage is slightly hotter vs the CR / CDR-210 models - neither here nor there, as sonic character is on par. Some would disagree.
My wife's MY00 Boxster (ordered new) came through with the CDR-220 coupled with the Tequipments optional amplifier and elaborate speaker modules for both doors and dashboard. A big improvement from stock audio arrangement - however sonic-ally just Okay,, at a huge Porsche option cost..

I have a '96 C4S with a CDR220. I had to send it in for service as the LCD on the front (removable) control panel was fading. The circuit board (display) was replaced and now as a yellow display rather than LCD.

Lots of us are using new Continental radios, which have a clean non-Atari design that looks appropriate for our cars.

Actually, CDR 220s have been specifically designed for 996 & Boxter. In order to see the front panel on another car, it needs an adaptation :
