Speedo Removed - Check Engine Light?

Speedo Removed - Check Engine Light?
An easy question for many here, though not for me.... I removed my speedometer to send in for repair of the odometer this week. When I turned car on for a quick drive around the block to test something else (speedo removed at this point) the check engine light stayed on. I reset it and it and the then the CEL lit up again. Any chance that the archaic computer system actually knows to throw a code when the speedo is removed or is this likely something else? I'm hard pressed to believe this car would throw a code for a dashboard instrument being unplugged but I know nothing....

It has nothing to do with spedo. Probably a misfire. Go have it read.

Both previous responses are correct.
The CEL has nothing to do with unplugging the speedo and you do need to have the code read for the origin of the CEL.
The forum can help with the code meaning, and so will a google search.

I had to remove my speedo to do some wiring behind the dash (wired in a radar detector). I did go for a test drive around the block and I noticed the warning light and related light for the spoiler stayed on. Reconnected the speedo, all fine.

Yep, this is exactly what I'm seeing- both of these lights are on. Seemed odd to me that this would trigger a CEL but seems we both have the same situation. I'll wait to receive my speedo back and then see if it disappears. Can then get a code reading once I know I can drive to the mechanic and know how fast I'm actually going.

Was the warning light you speak of, the Check Engine Light (CEL)?
I ask because I've had my speedo out to fix a btoken speedo gear and have never had a check engine light go on when the speedo was disconnected.

Yep, no "alternative facts". Same as OP, and now resolved by OP - reconnect the speedo.
