We can call this a Bozo move. While replacing the brake pads, I ripped apart this shim-thingy. (btw, what is this called?!?!) You've all seen it. There are 2 sizes, and I think I broke the smaller. It was REALLY stuck to the big shim, which was REALLY stuck to the brake pad, so when I pulled the pad out, it just ripped this apart.

Help is mucho appreciated.

Take them all out and throw them away. IMO, they are useless and just a PITA.
