Here is another data point.

I recently replaced my 7/9 17in Porsche Cup wheels with Dunlop 9000s with 7.5/10 18in Porsche Turbo Technology Twists with Michelin Pilots.

The total weights were as follows:
40lb and 47lb for the 17 inch wheels and tires
42lb and 48lb for the 18 inch wheels and tires

How do you like the handling of the Mich Pilots compared to the dunlops?

Tires and weights(S-03s):
-f 205/50-17(24lbs), r 255/40-17(27lbs)
-f 225/40-18(25lbs), r 265/35-18(29lbs)

If you go to Toyo T1S (one of the lightest street tire around) you will end up with a lighter total weight on the 18" than your original 17"

Mike - I've only owned my '95 911 since January and have driven less than 800 miles since that time so I am not as qualified as some other folks to give you a definitive answer. The Dunlops were about 4 years old. I've tried taking some exit ramps with more speed and the car feels very solid more firmly planted. Maybe I'm showing my age but the car feels more 'slot-car' like.
