Post Micro Mask

I've heard about the paintable, peelable
protective masks that are available, but was looking for a less expensive alternative. The
ones that I've seen are about $120/gallon.

Micro Mask (Costa Mesa) is well know product among scale modelers. See earlier post on stone chip touch-up. Think of it as paintable masking tape. Its usually sold in 1oz bottles for ~$2.

A test patch worked well, so I ordered a gallon
(~$30) and did the nose prior to spending
the day at Thunderhill yesterday.

It worked well. Few people noticed that it was
there (it dries clear) and seems to have provided
good protection.

It cleans up with water so if you run into rain
(or fog) it will blotch. It also takes a bit of
finesse to get an even coat.
