Porsche PET Parts Software + Windows 10?

The Ebay CD is the pdf format that you can download for free from Porsche.com. $152 is a complete ripoff! That cd used to be about $10 from a dealer.
I use Partslink24;

I cant help on anything regarding a disc though!

After a day and a half, mostly spent staring at the computer until droplets of blood formed on my forehead, I got PET installed and running. And NO, it won't run on Windows 10. You have to install a virtual machine (I used oracle vm virtualbox, which the techies say is "easy"), then install an older version of Windows (I used Vista because I had the disk handy), then install PET. I feel like I just did something important, but I heard someone mumbling in the background about "yard work" or some such trivia.

It is possible to install PET direct on all variants of Windows 7, 8, and 10, x86 and x64 versions without a VM, but it does require a bit of acrobatics. The advantage is it starts up and data loads immediately.

PET2 or 7 sources & install ? (esp Win-10)
i have PET6 on an XP which am about to junk as i convert to Win-10 - dunno how i got PET6 or how it was installed since i don't seem to have a CD for it
(i also have a Win-7 PC it could be put onto, which will remain alive for a few yrs more)
found this PET2 offer
http://www.autopodaci.com/itemPages/...ORSCHE_PET.php
(seems to be a bit convoluted ordering process)
and find several PET3 download offers like this http://blog.uobdii.com/free-download...talog-2016-04/
and http://www.uobdii.com/wholesale/spar...-cars-pet.html
- mostly from non-usa sites in places known for hacking - so am suspicious if they contain malware
has anyone bo't &/or installed any of these?
p.s. - don't need the newer cars stuff in ver 7 & 2, but would happy just to be able to run on a new PC

Widows ten has an option to load programs in a mode that looks like previous versions of Windows to older applications called "compatibility mode". I suspect if you use this feature it will run. I have found Windows 10 is capable of running very old software and works with very old hardware cards with a little work at install on configuration.

update
as an experiment - i just copied the 2 PET folders from my XP C: root (32bit) over to my Win-7 PC C: root directory (64bit)
- it works perfectly
folders are PET_PROG & PET_ROOT - the PET.exe launch is in the _PROG folder - just send a shortcut to desktop
then - i found my original PET6 zip file on one of my other drives -
only thing left is to test it on the new Win-10 setup - i'll update when i have an answer to that
p.s. - the 2 folders = about 185 MB disc space

Here's a link to the PET manual. It's free and direct from Porsche.
https://www.porsche.com/usa/accessor...artscatalogue/
After the link opens, scroll down and enter the model you're looking for. It's online so you always have it available, and did I mention it's free?
