The 95 c2 cab I just purchased has two small tears on the top they are directly across from each other and above the rear edge of the window, they are only about half an inch long, is this common and do I have to replace the roof immediatly or do I have a liitle time?
Any help would be appreciated

On the early 993 Cabs there was a recall as the pins would rub against the canvas. You may be able to notice that when putting the top down in warmer weather. I would not put the top down when weather is below 50 degrees to check. Other tops I found tear when left down for long time and the canvas shrinks and when raising can cause the top to premature wear than tear.
Regarding the tear, it can wait until you are ready for a new top. I don't think it will tear much more. With the cooler weather, and winter upcoming, I would just patch with similiar color canvas, and get top replaced in Spring. But before replacement, check the pings.
Good luck with your new Cab, it is a great car.

applied from the inside to avoid the "patch" look. maybe take it to a quality shop & have them do for you??? should be an easy fix. I've got a small mend that's barely noticiable. (a vandal)
& @ $1400. you can probably wait on doing a new top until you really need it.
cheers

Rob.... you may also want to treat your top with "ragg topp" or porsches equivalent (top protector) just to make sure you're fully weather-proofed. i just did this last weekend w/ "ragg topp" & was amazed how it restored the black color & sheets off water now. the spray also filters out uv-rays etc...

re: top pin recall... not sure. but there was a wire-harness re-call on my '97... not sure if that included '95's.

The only recall on a '95 c2 is for the engine wiring harness. I found just one tsb on the convertible top, having to do with insufficient clearance at the rear seat causing tearing.

Correction, I meant TSB, not "recall", about the top tearing. Chris you are correct. I just remember my dealer calling me back in '96 to bring the car in to check the clearance of the pins when top is lowered. Mine checked out fine, but heard was more of a problem with early production ('94) 993 with top tearing prematurely .

There was a recent thread where this was covered. The short version is that there is a hinged bar that is between the canvas and the head liner. There is a retention strap that pulls the bar back when lowering the top. This helps to fold the top down properly and out of the way of two monster pins that you will see come up out of the frame as the top goes down.
'95's didn't have the strap. Later years had the strap but it breaks and when it does, you have the chance of folding the top down upon the pins, hence creating a puncture.
To avoid this - when lowering your top simply push the bar back manually to make sure the top folds properly.
Hope this is clear.

are they located on the rear canvas panel which holds the window? because... i thought the "typical" tears tended to happen @ the corners behind/above the side windows. do you guys have any pictures? i'd leave the top up (don't operate) & have the dealer check the pins for clearance. (i think the pins "mo" was speaking of are visible when the top is down, & they point up as the top colapses to fold position). also, a good top shop can patch these tears from the inside... won't be that noticable, if they're not too big. better to catch it now. (i also know that operating the top in cold weather can cause tears). bol... that sucks guys.

Had the exact same tears on my top. replaced the top and the shop that did it did not find anything wrong with the frame or mechanisms. So I just chalked it up to old age and use. Love to hear if there is a true issue here
