Cerakote is absolutely compatible with magnesium with no change in temperature stability.
Absolutely, this was a concern I had but was told it's fine.

Satin Mag is the cerakote color.

I'd like to do this as well. Do the shroud and fan come off easily?

If you’re handy with tools, not bad at all. The only special tool you’ll need is a 3-prong puller to extract the fan from the fan bearing/alt shaft.
