Default 1997 993 at Barrett-Jackson

Just watching, they announced that a 40,000 mi. 1997 993 just sold for $200K. Anyone here own the car? Anyone there at Scottsdale know the story? "Inquiring minds want to know".

My take on BJ, is most cars go for more than 'market'. My BIL goes every year, he is a car guy, even a car Dealer in Canada. He was looked at bidding on an R8 yesterday. He did his reseach on what the market was for like cars in the US, easy to do on an R8, lots for sale. He said $60K would be good, and at $70K its time to put the hands down. The car went for close to $90, all in. A bad buy for that car. I think people get caught up in the hoopla of auctions, especially BJ, lots of noise lots of hype. But at the end of the day not many good deals IMHO. But its fun as heck to watch, or to go if you are lucky.

+1 Agreed. ... The over-sized buyer exuberance at the branded auto auctions is time honored, what's striking is the lot are informed "car guy" enthusiasts. Go figure?
A high octane moment; A clash of desire, bird-in-the-hand (right vehicle) and flush with available funds.

.. My wife chimes in ... "yeah its cognitive dissidence. Slang term is Porsche Stupid" . Yeah she's a smart ***, her MY15 Boxster S and all.

Sorta like the 993 GT at the RM Auction in London several months back when it was valued at 1MM - 1.2MM and sold for 2.4MM Two testosterone meat heads with a little jingle in their pockets.

BJ is a big bucks auction when in Scottsdale the one exception are race cars there have been a bunch of great buys over the years as there are few non-street buyers in attendance.

Sold by Silver Arrow cars from Victoria BC. Boozed up rich folks is bang on. Considering what he likely bought it for and the fact that's USD he made a bloody killing on that car. $200K + buyers premium etc - someone overpaid lol

Interesting reference point. This car was offered in 2009 for $78K with 31500 miles.

Full ownership and service history. $55K premium paid buying through BJ.

Nice catch. My take is prices have softened in spite of what Haggerty says. I would have guessed $155K US.

Or consider the BJ event in West Palm Beach where cars can be regularly had For below market bids. Yes more expensive to ship car Naomi, but the savings would support that.
