Default e-brake button stuck

My e-brake handle has been working a little weirdly lately - usually working fine but sometimes not doing the clicky thing and not engaging. Usually a couple of tries would take care of it.
Took the car out for a spin today and the button at the end of the handle is stuck in the in postion, which prevents the handle from locking into the brake-on position.

Do I need to take apart the whole console and investigate to fix or is there an easier way?

Any help appreciated, until then I'll try to avoid parking on hills.

Bobby,
Not the whole console, but enough to diagnose the issue and effect repairs. The back tray comes out first to allow access to other fasteners of the undertray of the Ebrake handle.

This should help...

Great link, it didn't come up in my searches, thanks.

Can't get to it before Feb 1, but between your link and http://p-car.com/diy/handbrake/ I should be able to take a look.
While I'm in there I'll probably look into doing something to refinish the handle - it's one of the few parts of the car that really looks like 106k miles....and maybe run some power into the console and maybe....

FWIW, I stopped using the rennlist search function YEARS ago. Google works much better and finds all the rennlist related stuff too.

Yeah, my first thought was to link you to the pcar diy, but the other seemed just as good...

Hope this helps you out!

Have a look around the perimeter of the button to make sure the vinyl/leather covering is not getting hung up on the button. You could possibly try cleaning around the button with a toothpick or similar. I doubt that's the issue with original upholstery, but I've had that happen after I've recoved my ebrake handle.
