The BFH approach worked. After a night-long soak in PB Blaster and a couple good thwacks, it came right out.

That is awesome.... When installing the new axles, make sure you put copper grease on the splines of the new axle. Its also worth giving the inside of the stub axle a quick brush with a small stainless steel detail cleaning brush, so everything will go back together nicely and if it has to be removed again will be nice and easy.

Yes I have some Permatex Copper for the splines. Thanks for the tip regarding the brush.
