Default How do I lower emissions

Tested my car today 94 993 obd1 and for a second time in a month failed on high emissions on high idle
how can I lower emissions do I need a new cat converter or 02 sensor

I know this sounds stupid, but are you looking for a permeant fix or a temporary fix to pass the SMOG check?

A permeant fix if possable I tried some fuel additave but it did not work
If you know of any other temporary fix please advise thanks in advance

A littel trick we used to do to make cars pass SMOG check is to clean the spark plug and put the car on the tester right after.

Have you replaced the spark plug?
Have you done a Bosch fuel injection service?
How many miles is on your 993?

I replaced 12 spark plugs about 600 miles ago
I have a second hand engine in my car after the last one went on fire at 60k miles due to bad wireing harness dont know exact milage on it
Whats a bocsh fuel injection service?

The Bosch fuel injection service is a device that utilizes a bottle of very concentrated fuel injector cleaner with the proper connecting couplings that hooks up to your fuel rail.

You would start and run the engine with the bottle attached and with the fuel pump turned off, so the engine would be running only on the fuel injector cleaner. It is a method of fuel injector cleaning that really cleans up the clog injectors.

Hey djmc:

Is this the first emissions check since the engine fire and newly installed motor? If there was damage to the harness I wonder if they got the harness properly repaired and/or connected?

It's unfortunate that you don't know more about the history of the motor . . . if it's a 10K mile motor the more likely solutions may be much different that if it's a 200K mile motor. If this is the first emissions check after install and the install was relatively recent, might be good to start a dialog with the engine installer to get some history on the motor, tests they performed upon install, etc. and see if they'll help fix it.

Off topic, but was it Porsche that isolated the engine fire to the wiring harness? And if so, did they reimburse you for the replacement motor?
