Glad you are okay....black ice will nail you everytime

To help your search there are two new listings on the PCA mart, a '97 cab and a '96 cab, with 19,000 miles and 17,000 miles respectively......both are just under $50,000

Our local Porsche dealer has a beautiful '98 silver cab. with low miles and great options....email me and I will give you the link to the car on his site....I'll go look at it for you....nice folks but I have never bought there...just service which is great

Get Well....there is another Porsche for you <img src="graemlins/wave.gif" border="0" alt="[byebye]" />

You may want to think this way:
Taking into account the world population and number of the cars on the planet we could make an conclusion there are not too much people who own/drive the car...just very few of them drive Porsches....only CHOOSEN ones have one time opportunity to total 911.

Hey Barry,

Someone up there is watching after you...

At least you can tell your grandkids that you totalled a Porsche.

Incidently, I ve been very happy with a CLK. I recently persuaded my cousin to go for a CLK convertible he was interested in. He rang me a couple of days ago to thank me.

He's enjoying his CLK 230K Cab very much. I think hes now hooked an sports cabs.

All the best.

Barry, I believe you will find that the MB CLK is half the car your cab WAS. I looked at purchasing one a few years ago for my wife and got her a new C5 Cab instead (red/black which she loves). The MB had wind noise, clunked, was underpowered and seemed to steer like a Chrysler (gee, I wonder why?). The lesson here about the car is regarding the rear tires, they are really "scrubbing". This is why they wear so quickly. Anytime you get into a traction situation, they can break loose very easily. Wet roads with leaves are another great teacher. Colder temps are also a problem and a major contributor to poor traction. I learned this lesson when I had only a BMW R60 for transportation when I was in school. I took an exit ramp in October and the temp was around 45. The rear slid like there was no tomorrow. I had to replace the right valve cover. It got ground down to a few microns by the pavement. Lucky for me the cylinder was ground down and not my right leg. I was going very slowly at the time and it was not raining. Just cold. I had made that turn many times before in warm weather with excellent traction and much more speed. We all know you can replace a car, but we can't replace a Barry. You have lots of options and things could have been much worse. I seriously doubt you want the car back even after repair. Too many questions about driveability for me. Good luck.

Man,

Sorry to hear that but good that you're ok. Cars (even Porsches) are way easier to fix that people...

Similar thing happened to a friend of mine in his Boxster, took the Boxster in to the ditch because of black ice.

You have the right to deduct the salvage value from your car, and keep the car.

For example: Total loss = $50,000, Salvage value = $5,000. Insurance company pays you the $50,000, and receives the $5,000 from a salvage yard, thus the insurance company's net cost is $45,000.

you can accept a check for $45,000 and keep the car (with a salvage title) for yourself.

Depending on what is salvageable from your car, you may know that you can get much more from the parts than a salvage yard/insurance adjuster without specific 993 knowlege would think. Make them give you the numbers, check the car for salvageable parts yourself, and decide.

Your story is yet one more reason to love these cars; great to hear that your Cabrio protected you so well.

If you are interested in a 1995 Black/Tan Cabrio, 51,000 miles, Los Angeles car in great condition, let me know. I'm about to put mine up for sale as I just bought a 1998 Targa. Pics are at:

Wow, thanks for all the great feedback on my lucky-ness and of other cars available. I liked the comment from someone who said I am provileged to be able to say I totaled a porsche (good sense of humor is great). This is actually my third Porsche crash - in 1993 I was sideswipped in my 911SC and the person tried to run from the scene of the accident - after a 2 mile chase, they ended up down a dead end street and I called the cops - there were no hassles from his insurance company and the damage totaled $17K. Then in this 993, I hit a deer in April to the tune of $15K - took off the front bumper/cowling, and passenger oil cooler, wiring harness and fan. Now this one. I guess I've had some bad luck and I consider my self a very careful driver (no points on license, no speeding for the most part, no tickets, etc.)

Its also great to know that there are at least four or five other cars just like this one avaiable for sale as I am leaning to getting another one just like it. Thanks for all the pointers to these cars, the ones I looked at look great.

Re salvage - this is an interesting option and one I had not thought of. I will look into this a bit and now it explains why there are a number of wrecked Porsches for sale on ebay from time to time.
