Stock is I believe 17.1 : 1 The 993 RS ratio as described in the Service Information Technik 96 # WKD 499 620***, "The force required for steering is somewhat higher than for the 911 Carrera (993). This improves steering feedback in sporting use. The steering ratio is 18.5 : 1"
If Porsche designed it for "sporting use", and that's how you use the car, then it makes sense to go with the RS steering rack.
I have stayed with the stock steering rack. I do take the car to the track for exercise, but don't do autocross where lots of radical steering input is required.
Pro driver Craig Stanton drove my car on the track, and at the conclusion of the 20 minute session, he told me not to change a thing on the car. BTW, I also use a 340mm in diameter quick release steering wheel. Stock is 380mm.
***Must reading for any and all 993 RS wannabes.
