Reasons to Love the 993 Version of the Porsche 911

It's been almost 20 years since Porsche stopped producing the 993 incarnation of the 911. Although it's long gone, it's not at all forgotten. Love for it remains.

Nice features of the 993:
  • Modern suspension;
  • Modern electrical system;
  • Modern transmission with smooth shifting Borg Warner type synchros.
  • Power steering;
  • Body that stays tight over the long haul;
  • AC that works!
  • Has OBDC system with minimal electronic ancillaries;
  • Vey reliable;
  • Lots of inexpensive performance upgrades available;
  • Parts readily available and reasonably priced aftermarket parts from original suppliers available, Bosch, Sachs, ZF...;
  • Active community of knowledgeable owners on Rennlist to help out with DIY info.

Is that the guy with the "lemon" 991?

It's too easy these days for anyone with a camera and an internet connection to be an "automotive journalist".

These threads are just so painful.

That said, the mods have been trying to give IB some constructive criticism on not only the delivery of the content but the accuracy of the content.

Painful watching that poor car running at 2,000 RPM's in the right hand lane, and what looks like 6th gear at 60 MPH.

"Rarer model or turbo or targa...they are worth so much money." Huh?

I didn't notice that - too funny! Nothing like getting the feel for a 993 at 2,000 RPM

Last of the air cooled cars.

Going to be worth a lot of money in the future.

There are many benefits of having one of our beloved cars.

I have no problem with that. Someone would have to pay me silly money to even consider parting with my targa.

LOL - completely understandable, and no offense to targa owners intended. Leaving subjectivity aside, however, the suggestion that targas command a premium like a turbo is simply misinformation.

+1. Agreed w/Quadcammer ~ Couldn't agree more with the Murray $.02. That old long drawn out post ... saga -Lemon Law-yellow brick road-JO-build up ....... all the while trashing the field zone guy's from Porsche Cars N.A. and accumulating astonishing mileage.

Every now and again a YouTube with that familiar name pops up. Click.
