Question Another novice/nieve question

Hi all, some advice or help again. When I bought my 97 LHD 4S in England I was told that the car had a THATCHAM CATEGORY 2 IMMOBILISER AND FACTORY FITTED PORSCHE ALARM, and it probably does.

I need a second key/remote cut and need to know the maker of the Immobiliser ( here's the novice question ) How do I know. in the absence of any documentation related to the Immobliser how does one know where/what it is ?

The key looks looks like a standard ( or one of them ) black chunky porsche key with small rubber area that you actually press to open/close etc but it has a small 1 1/2" long black tube that apparently needs to be with the key when in the barrel so as to not immoblise the car.

If I knew what was the make it would I'm sure all make sense

I haven't got a pic of this at the moment.

Long shot but anyway any help appreciated

Thanks John D.

When I bought my car secondhand I needed to get a new key and remote.

The key is straight forward, you just need your chassis number and the Porsche Centre can do the rest.

My car also had a second alarm fitted on top of the Porsche alarm. Both were operated off the Porsche remote. The replacement remote was a different story. In order to add a new remote to operate your alarm, you need the master remote which is red in colour as opposed to the standard black. This is only used to add and delete remotes from the system.

Unfortunately, my car didn't have this when I purchased it so I couldn't add a new remote. The only solution was a new alarm which cost almost €800 installed (ouch). I also had the second alarm system removed as the OPC said it wasn't needed as the new alarm they installed was an uprated version of the original. I presume the second alarm was a UK insurance requirement (my car is ex-UK).

If your second alarm is operated from the Porsche remote, then the above is all you need to do once you have the master remote. However, if your remote is non-Porsche, then you have another problem - any alarm specialist may be able to help you identify the manufacturer of the system.

Thanks for that Ken.

I like you don't have the Master Red key and suspect I'm heading for an Ouch!! ( 800euros sounds alot though )

But I will speak to an alarm specialist, as that's what I will probably need to have.

Thanks again

Default OPC Alarm replacements

John - I took mine to my OPC when I first got it (no red master for the alarm). They replaced the alarm circuit board which comes with a red master and a new black blipper - circa £290 all in if my memory serves me correctly.

Thanks also. I think that trip to my nearest OPC is the way to go in the first instance. ( I did ring but they couldn't comment before seeing my key )
