Drive Block Alarm/Immobiliser System
Guys
I need to disconnect my battery long enough for the ECU to reset (long story).
I guess I need to know the following:
1. How long will I need to disconnect the battery for, for the ECU to reset?
2. Upon reconnecting the battery, will I need the famous Drve-Block Code (which incidentally I don't think I have)?
I have tried to pre-empt the second question by contacting Porsche Stuttgart for the code anyway, to which they replied:
Owing to the Data Protection laws of their country they can't
disclose the immobiliser code to me directly from there. They say that for
security reasons, immobiliser codes can be accessed only from their databank by the Porsche Dealer Network when they need it to code the control unit during repairs.
In the event of an interruption in the current supply from the
battery, the immobiliser code would normally not be deleted from the memory of the immobiliser contol unit.
Any ideas?
Thanks

Francesco,
1) The ECU will reset imediately upon the removal of voltage. You can disconnect and immediately reconnect the battery. The same as restarting your desktop PC. The ECU will take some time to "get back to normal", so you will have some rough idling. I think the owners manual describes this or others here may know.
2) You will not need to re-enter your immobilizer code when the battery is disconnected. However, having the code is a good idea. It's not something you can call and get in five minutes.
