Dallas --> Pittsburgh: Amaranth Cab Purchase and Road Trip
Hello 993 enthusiasts,
Tomorrow morning I will be getting on a plane to pick up my first Porsche ever! Never imagined that my first P-car would be my favorite (993), but looks like I've lucked out!
I'm a car enthusiast through and through with 11 cars currently in the stable and another 20 some having come and gone over the last 13 years. I've mostly had BMW's, but also Mercedes (diesels), Audi's, Alfa's, and some other randoms. I've previously worked as a detailer, race mechanic, eclectic car salesman, and got to do some amateur formula racing a few years ago while attending the Mechanics Training Program that Jim Russel use to offer at Infineon Raceway.
I plan on documenting the 1600+ mile trip from Dallas to Pittsburgh on here with a little stop at the Tail of the Dragon on the way
Regarding the car, its a 3/94 c2 cab with 81k dressed in Amaranth Violet. I'm sure some will recognize the car and know it's previous owner, but I'll let him speak up if he so wishes. Non-original items are: Sport seats, twists, yellow brakes, black top (originally marble), fister II's, xenon retrofit, and H&R/ Bilsteins. All original paint car except for the windshield frame.
Future mods hopefully include: maintenance, probably golden rod/ ssk, clear front markers, maybe a soundbox intake, more maintenance, and then possible some suspension mods to give the car a little more rawness on its toes. After that I don't think I would take it much further, but I have almost zero seat time in any 911 so we shall see. I have a LSB e46 M3 that is setup as more of a track car for the street, and this car will more fill the void of a weekend countryside cruiser.
Excited to become part of the P-car community though and can't wait for this exciting journey to start tomorrow. After getting the car, we will head east and drive towards the mountains until we get tired. Hoping to make it to Atlanta if we take the southern route or past Nashville if we take the northern route. Wake up and blast around the mountains all day Wednesday and then spend the night in Asheville before heading north on Thursday. Couldn't really imagine a better way to get to know this Barney the Dinosaur of a car!
Any suggestions or input on routes / roads that should be driven would be awesome. I called all of the dealers in my area today thinking that they would have a spare DME relay but had no luck. Hopefully I will be able to pick one up somewhere in Dallas tomorrow before heading out. Also hoping to get some new spare belts for the trip as well, even though brand new ones were just installed. Sorry for the long read; just super excited!!

Yep! If I were in the market for a cab this one would be high on my list!
It's well known on this board

You are working with some good folks - both the previous owner and the dealer.
DME shouldn't be that hard to find here with two dealers.
Safe travels and have a blast!

Hi M635... I am also from Pittsburgh and live up here North of Pittsburgh in Mars. Can't wait to see the car at Cars and Coffee. Congrats! You joining the PCA / ARPCA?
