When I replaced my speedo gears many years ago, I had to remove the speed needle. When it was time to re-install the needle...there was no "notch" or "key" to line up it's position. So I installed it, left the gauge out and went for a drive with my GPS speedo. I got it real close...60mph indicated, about 58mph actual. But I've always wondered how everybody else did theirs.

The gauge does indeed go faster on the 2nd "half" of the tank. I'm pretty sure that's just a mechanical trait with the float in the tank. The float doesn't actually start to move down until a couple (??) of gallons is gone. I don't know this to be true, but I suspect it is.

I did see a post here some time back with a gizmo that electronically adjusted the reported pulse by a percentage you determine.
