Targa top lubrication
Anyone have instructions or ideas on lubricating the Targa top mechanicals? I can't find anything in the manuals on this...
My top is starting to show signs of "dragging" in certain circumstances. It kind of hops like a dragging power window in certain places. If it was a power window, I'd just lubricate the guide rail.

I am thinking of spraying some WD40's onto the mechanical parts, but no sure whether this is the right thing to do either.
Curtis, do you use "anything" to lubricate the glass edges to reduce squeaking noise?

I posted the original question on the PCA website and received the following today... just FYI:
Your question posted on PCA.org has been answered:
Area: 964 / 993 / 996 incl. Cup cars
Classification: Body
Subject: 993 Targa Top maintenance/lubrication
Question:
I haven't been able to find any information regarding maintenance or
lubrication of the top mechanicals on my 97 993 Targa. The top is working
fine but seems like it could benefit from some lubrication at times as it
will occasionally drag kind of like a dragging power window. Any
suggestions or guidelines?
Answer:
There is an entire section in the factory workshop manual supplements for
the Targa, but your topic is not one of them. Good question.
I would probably a good quality grease that looks & feels like what they
used at the factory.
Porsche issued Technical Service Bulletin 9703 in December 1997 to provide
corrections and adjustments that can be performed for customer reports of
creaks groans and noises. This 18 page tech note is not for the meek or
squeamish.
Amongst the procedures listed, they have you lubricate the sliding
elements of the hinge link with silicone spray. You would want to use
something like newspaper or plastic sheeting to mask off for overspray.
The other thing they mention is to lubricate the guide bushing of the axle
plate with heavy grease, part number 999.917.751.00. I think that is
really what you were looking for.
They further document that the seals should be treated with talcum powder
or equivalent, and can only be cleaned with soapy water. The SEAL must NOT
be treated with grease, vaseline, or anything like that.
