Default PSS9s in short supply

Just an FYI. I've started up a small business, RennTT Motorsports, and will be doing some work for folks here in the Bay Area. In trying to help folks acquire and install some PSS9s, I found that the well is running dry. I had to do a fair amount of searching to pick up a few sets. Apparently Bilstein is backordered with 50+ orders until January sometime (and a price increase is expected then as well). Many of the distributors also don't carry much inventory or are out of them already. The Racers Group is out, as is I think Bimmerparts. I also had an email from someone telling me that Gert is no longer shipping PSS9s to the states(??). Does anyone else know if this is true?

So if you are planning a PSS9 install for an early winter project, I would try and start looking now if you can as prices are bound to go up when the only ones left will be the ones at the expensive distributors.

Good luck.

Gert told me that he no longer sells PSS9s for the 993.
They're no longer on his website.

Graham,

No he didn't
I'm sure his reasons are valid and I'm sure that if I needed them then he would advise that I got them elsewhere. But I dont believe that I do and Gert concurs with that.

Sounds like a good reason to go with Motons.

PSS9 in short supply: Absolutely true!

I've been waiting since the end of August for mine. A local shop (with good recommendations from PCA/POC folks) told me that Bilstein is backordered to December. There just aren't any alternatives, so far as I can see. And the kicker is, I'll probably be asked to pay a higher price when we had already agreed on one last August AND after having put down 50% of the agreed cost. Suggestions/advice welcome. Otherwise, I guess I'm waiting

FWIW: Back somewhere in June/July when I was getting my Pss9 I saw the "Special" on Bilstein site. I called and was told they had a price drop to more than half on Pss9 for all cars, but the computer didn't show for Porsches. He said it means it's up to the distributors to decide on the price for Porsche cars (not sure what it means). This may explains why Bimmerparts (a distributor) and some others sold them for under $1500 thus drives up demand.

Greg,

Do you think that Motons are a reasonable solution for most of the folks here?

Motons do seem to be a great alternative for the 2% of us really crazy people. The majority of the folks I think just want a plug and play solution. Maybe I'm wrong. Deciding on spring rates, adjusting bump and rebound for various track conditions, and then there is the issue of finding Nitrogen for filling those remote reservoirs which also need to be mounted somewhere is a little more than most folks I think would want. Then there is the cost factor. $1500 for PSS9s with install, corner balance, alignment, and then sway bars tips the budget towards $3,500 in most cases, and this is without camber plates (add another $1000 for these little items). The Motons by themselves start at $3000 without springs, so now you are looking at a $7000 investment for these beauties to be installed.

So are they really an alternative for most folks? I guess time will tell in light of the PSS9 shortage.

Viperbob,

Congratulations on your new business. Are you going to acquire and install aftermarket parts for lucky Bay Area Rennlisters? I may make a trip up to see you for some installs, upgrades this winter. Anyway, good move, and best luck.

Bob,

Us crazy ones just skip the ClubSPorts and go right to the "professional" version.

I am sure they aren't a direct substitute but if the price of the P-ss9's increase with this lack of demand, it would seem that the Moton's are a good value in comparision.

I have seen the Motons CS for as low as $2500 which is close to what I have seen the P-ss9's sell for at a "high end" retailer. So the prices are getting (IMO) fairly close.

Regarding the nitrogen. I don't think it is a huge issue as long as they keep pressure. My JRZ's have not lost a pound and I would think the Motons would be the same.
I agree there are issues but if someone wants an agressive set up and does see the track more than a couple times a year the extra performance would be worth the hassle.

FWIW I put the HD's on my street car as I have zero plans for any track time with this ride. I added a larger rear sway bar (~$200) and the car is great. We could probably use the same arguement for the HD's vs. the Pss9's...

The conversation folks are hearing relative to a PSS9 price increase may be because of the new rear hats which Bilstein now includes standard. Bilstein told me these have caused the retail prices to go up about $150USD.

That is reflected in the current list price of $3095. When the new stock is available in the January time frame, the price increase is expected to be $3695 according the distributors I have been talking to recently.. The 996TT units that are just starting to ship here in the states are carrying a $3895 retail price.
