You're in, but remember, you need to maintain your dignity while begging (unless you're dealing with your wife)
Tom
since I'm partial to cabs, you're in as well. We already have a Joey Bagadonuts, but no "Dr. of Donuts". WElcome to the team

Great. The longer I wait, the more positions get filled. I just know there is the perfect spot for me though. With your help, we'll figure it out....

At my first DE, I listened intently at the drivers' meeting, where the slalom on the back straight (to keep the property owners happy with top speeds under 80 mph) was declared "optional." After a few parade laps behind one of the few instructors, I decided to exercise my "option" by punching it straight down the outside of the slalom . I later learned not only the meaning of the furiously waved black flag, but that the left or right entrance to the slalom was optional. Team interpreter perhaps?!?!
If that post is occupied, I could always be team home-brewer , or just "that nutty rock climber"....

Sheesh, you guys. This thread was started by Scott Mellor with a plea to join the very exclusive HWFM Racing. 20 posts later, he's still waiting for an appropriate position to be made available. I will vouch for his dementedness (my wife forbids me from playing with Scott). Can we think of some way to switch letters in his name? Let's see... Scott Mellor... smeller. Yeah, that's it! "Official smeller" for HWFM Racing. What do you think Scott?

Well, I guess you could call him 'Smellor' to stay a little closer to the surname. This could be interpreted as a wine afficiando, or the guy everyone stays upwind from.

Perhaps "Team Biological Thermal Stress Test Engineer".
Sounds more grandiose than Team Hothead
-------------------------------------------
How can you not admire that sort of creative thinking. Mike, get this guy in quickly, before he gets an offer from one of the competing teams! Oh. There are none? Never mind.
re: MadMarkie: First of all, with a screen name like that, this guy doesn't even need a story. He's just in. But, I feel that every team needs someone to help intrepret the rules in a way that makes them just a touch more favorable to our team members. So, we can be considered slow, but also bad sports, which I think is a charming combination. I would love to tell you how we "interpreted" the rules when running the IMSA RSR car, but I'm not sure the statute of limitations has run out. MadMarkie, how about "Team Rulebook Interpreter and Bail Bondsman"?

It's not succinct, but it has a certain elegance. Done. "Team Biological Thermal Stress Test Engineer" And you are now the proud holder of the longest team function name.
Markie and Steve
Bailbondsman! Just what the team needs. "Team
Rulebook Interpreter and Bail Bondsman" it is.
Please tell us more about the IMSA RSR effort (leave out anything involving podiums).
We have to find our team registrar and get all these new members official entered on the team grid. Danny, you still at sea?

Mike,
Now that we have an actual team bail bondsman, I feel a little more comfortable telling the story about one of the IMSA 6-hour enduros at Riverside. This goes back to, I dunno, 1981 or 1982 or so. There were three classes running together: GTP, dominated by the Porsche 935s; GTO, for the bigger displacement GT cars; and GTU for the smaller displacement GT cars. My RSR, being a 2.7 liter car, could run either GTU or GTO, depending on the weight, the rear wing, and the rear fender slots.
My two teammates and I looked over all the entries before deciding which class to run. This was the year that BMW introduced their seemingly invincible M1 into GTO, so we decided to run GTU. We slapped the smaller wing on the car and used cardboard and ducttape to cover the rear fender openings. GTU: we were ready. Notice I didn't mention adding the required ballast.
As the race drew to a close, we realized that we were running third in GTU (behind two horribly noisey RX-7s), and were likely to get scrutinized. Oh oh. No sweat. We brought the car into the pits a couple of laps from the finish (we had a big lead on the 4th place car) and simply filled that sucker up with fuel. To the top. We met the minimum weight by a couple of whiskers.
Post note. We actually won $4500 for that race. If, however, we had run that car in GTO, we would have won the class and won around $12,000... the BMW M1s were fast but were crap.
A further confession: Lets see... three drivers; six hours. That works out to two-hour stints. But wait; IMSA only allowed a 30 gallon fuel cell, and we were a couple of gallons short of lasting two hours. What to do? Easy. A three gallon "fuel filter" was added to the system, and we made our two hours just fine, thank you very much.
MadMarkie, do your stuff.

Great story.
And there is nothing wrong with a teammate being on the podium, as long as you get there creatively --
A three gallon fuel-filter. Wonderful.
Plus outsmarting yourself on $7500 is pure HWFM Racing.
Please share more from time to time.

I'm here boss! I was thinking the same thing. The list has to be updated and posted.
I will promptly do so after evaluating further memberships that may have been omited since the last update.
I will post this late tonight so watch this space!
It's good to have you back our leader.
Note to Chris new RC consultant:
RC's are a mad decease and a dangerously expensive hobby. I have 3 yes 3 Porsche chassis now the TA03RS (one is a TRF racing chassis) and...5 bodies!!! 3 993's ,2 GT1's. I'm going mad and want to put on a 6 or 7 turn modified motor to make them fly!
I was thinking the other day for the HWFMR club meeting at Putnam this September to bring a couple and have a team race in between the racing session breaks! You are going to be held responsible from now on if the decease spreads to the team. I do not want anyone blaming me

Oh Dear, how DID the bail bondsman portion get whipped into this? I do think I can cover for Steve as long as he promises to keep using Duct Tape and cardboard, two of my favorites ! Also please hang onto the funds thus saved and/or earned for the bail bond account (or mods if you don't get caught).
As for interpretation... my creative juices continue to keep me on thin ice at work (I thought engineers are supposed to be creative; also notice I didn't reply to the "How much time...?" thread), so that part should be a blast!

Cool, I'm in! Can't wait for the decals Mike.
I think it's pretty obvious where I would line up on the grid.... Unless you wanted to put me up front so everyone on the team would have a chance to pass the backmarker at least once...
