Default An other cab top issue thread

I converted my top to manual operation. I am having a few intermittent issues. Sometimes, it will unlatch only one side and only half way. The day after it will unlatch without problem.

Occasionally, it won't close (latch). I press the switch and there is no sound and no movement. If I wait a couple hours, it will work.

I have read many threads on the topic. The fuse is fine. The latch motor gear is fine. I tested the switch and it's fine. Then I removed the control unit to look at the circuit board. All the solder joints seem fine (to my inexperienced eyes).

I'll have it checked tomorrow (any one has a contact in Laval/Montreal area?)

If it's fine, what else should I check? I think there is a micro switch beside the latching motor. And how do I test that?

Thanks!

Definitely, the solder in the lower left corner is what you need to look for. This one is intermittent for sure.
All the solders that are darker than the other ones are suspect, either not contacting or on their way to become intermittent.

You will need quite a bit of heat to fix it because the pins are quite big compared to the traces on the circuit board. It can be a little tricky to find the right balance between enough heat for a good contact and little enough to keep the trace sticking to the board.
While you are there, make sure to resolder all the pins for the connector of the unit.

Pretty confident it will fix most of your problems .

Thanks! Lesson learned... inexperienced eyes can't see the bad solder joint. I brought the circuit board to a specialist who saw à couple issues right away (like you mesprit87). I am looking forward to try it after!
