Question 993 modifications ???

Hello All, After many years of drooling over other people's Porsches I splurged last year and purchased a '96 993 with 61,000 miles for $34k. During the past 16 months I have a ton of fun and put 6,000 weekend miles on my new toy.

Now I am interested in some performance modifications and am considering upgrading my suspension to the PSS9s, sway bar & 18" wheels. I am also considering a new paint job next year.

My question for the forum is...With 67,000 miles on my car, does it make sense to do the modifications? Or, should I consider finding a lower mileage 993 and make the modifications to that car? What experiences have other people had with higher mileage 993s?

I am not wealthy, but am fortunate enough to be able to consider a couple options. Any input is appreciated. Thanks!

If you love the car to hell with the miles....My 993 has about 68K on it and I wouldnt trade it in for a lower mileage car ever. I have built a bond with this car and I know what its thinking. If you plan on being buried in this car then make it exactly the way you want it. There are quite a few guys on Rennlist that have over 100K on their cars. You avg about 400 a month on your car right now, at that pace you wont hit 100K for 8 years and 8 months...Go for it and dont worry about the miles on the car!!

By the way, your first mod should be a membership to Rennlist and your local PCA. This will be the smartest mod you will ever do for your car!!

Dont worry about the mileage of the car. If it has been maintained and runs well, no sweat. I wish I would have bought a high mileage car, 1) to save some money 2) I wouldnt have felt so bad upgrading the car, replacing (upgrading) still good parts in favor or better ones.

A local PCA friend of mine has a 95 993 w/ 175k miles and he tracks the **** out of that car. He is very quick with it. Best part is his car is untouched and has original suspension on it!

I agree with Chris - the miles are not important. Look after her well and you will be amply rewarded!

Hi Dan:

You've been offered some very sound advice here and I concur with all of it,.....

If you like the car, then go ahead and do the modifications you want to make it more fun to drive. These things are all pretty bulletproof and with good maintenance, will run a long long time.

LOL,.....Chris's buddy with the '95 ought to consider a suspension replacement as he'll be in for a big surprise if the shocks really have 175K on them,...

Do the PSS-9's, RS adjustable swaybars, a strut brace, and close-ratio gears and you will be totally amazed.

I agree with all of the above and will add one more thing - DRIVE IT! Mine is my daily driver and I love it and so does she (all my cars have been women!). Don't fret about the miles - enjoy the car every day - your life will be better in the long run.

If you like your ride you should modify if it pleases you independent of miles then drive, drive, drive...just added suspension and wheels/tires after 105K miles and couldn't be happier... these babies like to be rode hard and put away clean!
