Several 993 problems
I had torn my top mechanism down several times trying to get the gears aligned and the micro-switches triggered. Never could get it to work perfectly - so I took it to the dealer and they did the alignment and no problems since -
...except when the wind screen came out while raising the top and got jammed and broke (insert angry gremlin here). Had to manually losen the top to get it aligned again but it still works perfectly - except for the new (used) wind screen that I have to make certain is properly seated before operating the top.
The top alignment is booked in for this Thursday...and I guess two replacement motors. I pulled one of the front locking motors apart (and was actually able to put it back together!!) - the problem was obvious - there is a series of angle-toothed brass(?)gears (cogs), one of which was torn apart. Does anyone know of a source for the internal parts of these little gearboxes? The part number is 911.624.055.01 (for the side I pulled apart).
My suspicion is that the cog is part of a "set" and cannot be replaced alone, but someone else will have to confirm.
I was at a local eatery last night...parked in the furthest spot away in the clear...and a family in an Expedition decided to admire the car...the young daugther excitedly exited the back seat and slammed the door into the 993!!
It is a dent about 3" long, about 1 1/2" back from the door in the rear quarter panel, just as the panel curves into the top.
I returned to the car after dinner to find a note under the wiper (fortunate that there are still people out there that take responsibility for their actions!).
Took the day off today to do something about it. I am booked in at the Dent Wizard for them to "inspect" it at 12:30pm today. They did a great job on my Acura MDX (with a difficult dent) but with all due respect to MDX owners...it's a piece of thin Japanese sheetmetal!
Has anyone had experience with the Dent Wizard people (and P-Cars)?
I had the harness replaced on my Turbo, and the car came back with a burned out instrument bulb (the computer readout thing... you don't have one). Coincidence? Maybe.
The dent is so close to the (door) edge of the rear 1/4 panel that they could not get their tools in there to do a good job, so we agreed to stop it and move to alternative #2 (although they did complete a magnificent repair to a small door ding - my only other blemish [that I did myself in my garage!] - on the drivers side door - absolutely impossible to tell it was ever there!).
I took it to a place that apparently does all the local dealer's work - and that seemed to please the insurance adjuster for the guy that's paying, especially as the quote was $621 - seemed cheap for what they said they'd do. It was good to see that their yard was indeed populated by many P-Cars! So we're booked in for June 30, and all approved by the insurer.
Tomorrow it goes in for the cabriolet top tuning.
Will it ever end?
At least it'll give me reason to be on my motorcycle more often (2001 Victory V92C Deluxe - 1507cc of pure Polaris power), although here in Richmond VA, summer seems a distant memory - raining again today...
