My sister has the same hiss/whistle when slightly depressing the accelerator on her '95 993 cab. Sounds kind of like what an old 4 barrel carb sounded like when sucking air in without the filter on. A brief check by the dealer detected the sound but could not locate the source.

I had torn my top mechanism down several times trying to get the gears aligned and the micro-switches triggered. Never could get it to work perfectly - so I took it to the dealer and they did the alignment and no problems since -

...except when the wind screen came out while raising the top and got jammed and broke (insert angry gremlin here). Had to manually losen the top to get it aligned again but it still works perfectly - except for the new (used) wind screen that I have to make certain is properly seated before operating the top.

While we're on the subject of 993 problems (and it was the same with my old 964), the power window switches are absolutely crappy. Over the past 4 years I've replaced at least 8 of them between the two cars. Is there an after-market manufacturer for this switch type (of better quality than the OEM)?

The top alignment is booked in for this Thursday...and I guess two replacement motors. I pulled one of the front locking motors apart (and was actually able to put it back together!!) - the problem was obvious - there is a series of angle-toothed brass(?)gears (cogs), one of which was torn apart. Does anyone know of a source for the internal parts of these little gearboxes? The part number is 911.624.055.01 (for the side I pulled apart).

The switches are crappy, I have gone through a few myself. This point was posted before and someone suggested they had seen aluminum switches for sale on Ebay. I have seen them pop up from time to time, but they are pricey, a few hundred dollars I think for the set. You can keep an eye out for them, if you get them, report back if you think they are worth it.

My suspicion is that the cog is part of a "set" and cannot be replaced alone, but someone else will have to confirm.

As if I had enough problems with this car!!

I was at a local eatery last night...parked in the furthest spot away in the clear...and a family in an Expedition decided to admire the car...the young daugther excitedly exited the back seat and slammed the door into the 993!!

It is a dent about 3" long, about 1 1/2" back from the door in the rear quarter panel, just as the panel curves into the top.

I returned to the car after dinner to find a note under the wiper (fortunate that there are still people out there that take responsibility for their actions!).

Took the day off today to do something about it. I am booked in at the Dent Wizard for them to "inspect" it at 12:30pm today. They did a great job on my Acura MDX (with a difficult dent) but with all due respect to MDX owners...it's a piece of thin Japanese sheetmetal!

Has anyone had experience with the Dent Wizard people (and P-Cars)?

There was a post about this in the Detailing thread. They said a great job was done by one of the PDR places.

I've had some paintless dent work done on my Cobra, and the results are amazing. On the recall... be sure you SHOW the dealer that the AC is functioning properly when you drop off the car. Explain that you've heard about problems when the harness gets replaced. Check it again when you pick up the car (in fact, check EVERYTHING) before you leave the service area.

I had the harness replaced on my Turbo, and the car came back with a burned out instrument bulb (the computer readout thing... you don't have one). Coincidence? Maybe.

UPDATE: Well, unfortunately I was unable to get Dent Wizard to perform!

The dent is so close to the (door) edge of the rear 1/4 panel that they could not get their tools in there to do a good job, so we agreed to stop it and move to alternative #2 (although they did complete a magnificent repair to a small door ding - my only other blemish [that I did myself in my garage!] - on the drivers side door - absolutely impossible to tell it was ever there!).

I took it to a place that apparently does all the local dealer's work - and that seemed to please the insurance adjuster for the guy that's paying, especially as the quote was $621 - seemed cheap for what they said they'd do. It was good to see that their yard was indeed populated by many P-Cars! So we're booked in for June 30, and all approved by the insurer.

Tomorrow it goes in for the cabriolet top tuning.

Will it ever end?

At least it'll give me reason to be on my motorcycle more often (2001 Victory V92C Deluxe - 1507cc of pure Polaris power), although here in Richmond VA, summer seems a distant memory - raining again today...
