Is there any difference between direct charging and cig light charging?

The cigarette charging is easier and more convenient. Park. Plug in. Close the door. Done.

if you have ctek's adapter hooked up to the battery, its just as easy and you're guaranteed a proper connection. I think its easier connecting thru the frunk then running thru the window.

i go under the door. the wire is thin... won't bother the door gasket - just make sure wire has slack and lays flat on the gasket when closing the door

Notice I never mentioned anything about the window for a reason.

I have both the 3300 and the 4.3. Can't go wrong with either.

The 3300 kept my optima battery in tip top shape for 8 years.

I bought the 4.3 so both cars had one instead of switching back and forth.

No way I'd use the cig lighter to charge either, just my opinion... Ever seen the gauge of those wires?

Been using the Ctek (same as Porsche version but Ctek labeled) for 9 years... no problems as long as you make sure it is seated. Used to kill batteries every couple of years over the winter by neglecting to check connections...now I am getting ridiculous life out of batteries by keeping them topped up all the time. I'm a believer.

Why does it mater? I use a generic 1.5 amp charge / float charger with a cigarette lighter adapter. The benefit of being a charger is that if I accidently leave a light on and kill the battery, 4 hours later i'm back in business and it cost a whopping $30.

I hate to say it, but I've abused my Ctek 3300s.

I've pulled the wires out of one at least twice when I forgot to unplug it. Some solder and its back to working great.

And yes, I ran over it once after dragging it roughly 50 feet. box is a bit scratched but the thing works just like before.

performs the charging functions great.

reviving old thread.

has anyone successfully used the CTEK cig lighter plug with their 993s?
just bought myself a CTEK MXS 5.0 and deciding whether to buy the accessory cig plug able too.

have read mixed results form owners on this forum.

I already have a Porsche charger for my other car, which I believe is made by CTEK, and that cig lighter plug doesnt fit my 993.

is the CTEK plug the same size as the Porsche plug?
i would prefer the cig plug for convenience.

My cig lighter is only live with ign on so not much use. I use this in the flap over the first aid panel. So you can see at a glance the charge level.
