Default Wheel or Tire Question

I recently purchased a set of 4 - 18 7.5 and 10 OEM Turbo Twist wheels from a fellow Rennlist member that were from a NB 1999 996.
After getting Michelin Pilot tires mounted I noticed that the wheels appear opposite / different on each side of the car. What I am trying to say is that the wheels do not look the same on both sides - it looks like the wheels are mounted backwards on one side. The tires and the wheels are identical pairs. Am I losing it ?

Steve,

No, you're perfectly sane. The wheels do have a different look when viewed straight on from the RH or LH sides. Puzzled me too, when I noticed it. Its simply because of the wheel design and the fact that the five "cutouts" in the 18" turbo wheel are not symetrical.

Thanks Mike,
Thats a major relief.
It surprises me that Porsche does not manufacture these wheels with a left side design and right side design.

Steve,

I thought about that too - but it's bad enough now with specific FR and RR wheel sizes, special directional tires, etc. Don't give PNA any ideas.

The good news for us overly obsessive/compulsive types is that you can only see one side of the car (straight on) at a time. That's how I was able to get past this issue and go on with the rest of my life...

Ciao

Update...mission accomplished - new tires and wheels installed !

The '99 18in 7.5/10 Turbo Technology wheels (and tires) weigh slightly more than the '95 17in 7/9 Cup wheels (and tires) :

40lb and 47lb for the 17s w Dunlop 9000
42lb and 48lb for the 18s w Michelin Pilots

I love the way the car looks now, with the 18s. On the road, the new wheels and tires handle great. The car tracks perfectly straight. I have not yet done an alignment. The steering support brace is on order from Suncoast at a much better price than my local dealer.

I will be putting the Cup wheels on the 944 next weekend but now Ive got to take the car out for a Sunday ride. I love this global warming - its f'ing 60 degrees and sunny !

ps - The wheels fit great - thanks Sloth !
