Default Refreshing the steering column caps

If the caps for your turn signal, cruise control, and windshield wiper stalks are looking a little old due to worn paint, you can replace with brand new parts for ~$30.

The cruise control and windshield wiper caps are easy to find. They're in the 993 PET illustration 903-10.

The turn signal cap is not in the PET, and is not available separately, although once removed, you can see a part number - 993 613 500 00 01C.

The 996 version of that cap is in the 996 PET, and is available separately. Part number - 996 613 509 10 A05.

Before I took a gamble on the 996 part, I had my IMSB-anxiety-immune 996-driving brother check out the part on his car. Surprisingly, it had the 993 part number.

Undeterred, I ordered the part. It fits perfectly, although doesn't have the "P" that my old switch cap has. It may have a slightly different texture as well, but it's very minor.

For my car, I ordered:
1) 993 613 505 00 01C - cruise cap
2) 993 613 507 00 01C - wiper cap
3) 996 613 509 10 A05 - turn signal cap

Good question. The 993 PET does not list that part.

If I were to guess, I'd say it's 996 613 503 10 A05 based on the 996 PET. I don't have a good way to confirm this though.

Thank you for posting this...Do the caps just snap in and out? Any installation tips or pointers?

I should have mentioned that. Yes, they snap out. I was able to unsnap them without tools, using just my fingernail from the outside edge. If you order new pieces, you should be able to see how they attach by looking at the new caps.

If it's even slightly different, it's very possible the purists will have none of it!
