need some mod advice please..
I am expecting delivery of my 1997 C2S some time late this week or early next week.
My first DE will be at Sebring (3days for winterfest,) at the end of the month.
These are the mods I am considering and would love some input and technical info.
I do have DE experience and have been a solo driver for a couple of years. I also recently completed Skip Barber 3 day racing school.
I guess I am going to need an extra set of wheels and tires. Do I heat cycle and shave?
I would like to get a cheap set of wheels because they will only be used on the track.
1)For a C2S with 18" wheels, what do I need for the track in terms of size and dimension front and rear?
2)I am planning on taking out my drivers seat and putting in a seat that is more suited for performance driving. I don't want a race seat because it will still be a street car. Is there a good seat that will fit my needs for track and street?
3)I do plan on putting in a roll bar and harness setup. Do I use a 4 point? a 5 point? and do I need the seat to accomodate the belt config? Any suggestions on manufacturers?
Also, I currently have wheels and tires for my Audi S4 which I sold. They are 17" with Kumho victor racers heat cycled and shaved. Will the lug pattern fit on a Pcar? Can I use this setup?
I also have a set of Pagid Orange Pads for the Stoptech front brake system from my Audi. Will these pads fit the calipers on a C2S?
Thanks in advance and hope to pass you soon

B-line:
Congratulations on your new toy. I'm certain you will enjoy it!
I would recommend a 5 or 6 point harness and I used the Recaro SRD with a sub belt hole option when I had a street/track car. It was comfortable, supportive and the back was adjustable. I'm certain that other companies probably make something similiar but I have no experience with them. I cannot comment on the S4 rims/tires and brake pads.
Can you contact me offline to talk about a couple of C2S cars that I know you looked at recently and also Winterfest? My email is vze2jt5r@verizon.net
Thanks,
Morgan

The Recaro SRD is the *only* seat I was able to find which had both the option for a hole in the seat bottom (for the fifth point belt) and a hinged seatback. I'm happy with it in my car.

I wouldn't suggest going with the cheapest thing out there. The track is not the place to find out your wheels are not up to the task. Look for a take off set of hollowspokes they will probably be the best for the money. If you go custom there are lots of choices. search the archives as this has been discussed extensively.
As far as shaving and heatcycling it just depends on what tires you end up with. You can heatcycle by driving on the street if need be.

I doubt the wheels will work, the pads may work, what is the part number on the pad?
Then go to www.northstarmotorsport.com and they have an application chart that will show the part number for a 993.

Hey B-Line -
Save your money and use 17s on the track. Unless you are really racing (ala Greg) there is no reason to spend SO much extra money on 18 wheels and then race tires every 6 events.
For seats and roll bars, call Bill Love at OG Racing. He sells Sparco stuff and you can order a folding seat with a hole. But why not not buy a real racing seat and put it in the car before events and then use the nice plush leather seat on the street. It is not hard to change and that way you will have better support at the track where you need it and more comfort on the road, rather than compromising on both.
As for mounting harnesses, see my site, I have a DIY. Nothing hard there.
Remember that any changes you make for safety for the driver must be equaled for the passenger - PCA rules. Even for instructors. Believe me that the first time you run this car at the track you are going to want an instructor riding with you. That means the same harnesses and seats for both sides.
