Default Seat back swap problems

My passenger seat is like new and the driver's has some bolster wear. So I want to do the seat back swap that others have done.

I have the passenger seat out of the car. Mine are 8-way electric.

My problem is in the separating the top from the bottom.

The little square dowel/hinge pins won't come out. For others who have done this job, they slide out sideways with little effort. Mine won't come out more than about 1/2 inch.

They are threaded in the center so I threaded in a hardened screw with a washer and tried a slide hammer....not much luck.

Then I fabricated a puller with a socket sleeved over the pin and the hardened screw (allen head) screwed in against a series of stacked washers. That got me to the 1/2--3/4 of an inch out on both sides....then several hardened screws snapped!

I talked with Bob and Classic 9 leather (who is doing my dash recover) he was super nice and said the pins should slide out fairly easily. Maybe to try powering up the electric recline function and rock it back and fourth while pulling on the pins....i tried. Nothing :-(

So I look to the wisdom of the 993 Rennlist community. How do I get these damn pins out????

Thanks!

I'm considering the same thing. Posted a request for help under "switching seatbacks..." and got a great reply from a fellow RLer with an indepth article of how to do it - at https://rennlist.com/forums/993-1995-...ap-w-pics.html

Hope it helps.

Thanks Don,

That was the thread that gave me the original idea :-)

The process "should" go easy as pie....but in my case, I cant get the square pins out. Maybe it is because I have 8 way electric (with electric recline) or something else.

For the life of me, I can't get those pins out!

That said, the notion of swapping the backs is a good one.... average out the wear on both seats and get a fresh bolster on the drivers side to go another 15 or 20 years :-)
