Question What lube for shifter?

I decided to pull the console & eyeball the shifter assembly, w. an eye towards giving it some lubrication, do what I can to free up the shifter linkage.

I'm all the way down in there, and am now wondering... what should I use? I'd started on this because of someone else's post about doing same, and I believe they'd sprayed a silicone lube down onto the tube which holds the assembly.

But the stuff caked up around the perimeter of the collar looks pretty thick; I'm wondering if I should use grease instead of a silicone spray.

I read through volume II of the 993 service manual, but the only thing I found was on adjusting the fore-aft angle of the lever. Maybe this was covered in an earlier edition?

TIA,

RNH

I used Valvoline Synpower for point application
on the linkages.

I used a moly-sulfide grease on the slider.

" I decided to pull the console & eyeball the shifter assembly " Would it be possible to explain as an answer how this is done? I would also like to lube the shifter, see if that improves things.

I'll take some pictures during the reassembly & post them to Robin's site. Most of it is really, really straightforward - all exposed phillips screws holding the whole thing together. The only trick thing is getting the leather shift boot disengaged from the console. That's already written up in a couple of different threads, but I'll cover it w. pictures too.

If you're prone to occasional fits of OCD/Concours-like cleaning, this is a great time to do it
